Warframe: 1999 – Nostalgia Meets Innovation

Scheduled to reveal its official launch date at The Game Awards on Dec. 12, Warframe: 1999 promises a bold blend of ‘90s aesthetics and modern gameplay:

  • Cyte-09, the 59th Warframe: Known as "the kiss of oblivion," Cyte-09 brings a unique set of abilities, including wall-scanning, cloaking, elemental ammo packs, and an Exalted Sniper Rifle that features ricocheting bullets and an icy grenade launcher.
  • New Enemy Factions: Players will confront the Scaldra and Techrot Infestation. Notable among them is Lieutenant Viktor Vodyanoi, voiced by Neil Newbon (Baldur’s Gate 3), whose internal power struggle with his faction adds narrative depth.
  • PvPvE Game Mode – Faceoff: Eight players, divided into two teams of four, battle waves of enemies and complete objectives across Höllvania. Teams can unlock boosts for themselves or unleash hindrances on their rivals, such as critical damage buffs or missile strikes.

New Gameplay Systems and Content

The update also brings several exciting features:

  • Romance & Relationship System: Players can interact with members of The Hex, learning their backstories and building rapport to unlock rewards like music tracks, cosmetics, crafting materials, and upgrades.
  • New Narrative Content: Refined new-player experiences include expanded weapon and Warframe slots, removal of Master Rank Test cooldowns, and reworks for Trinity and Nyx. Notably, Nyx will receive improved UI visibility, additional Psychic Bolts, and buffs to her Absorb ability.

Music and Events

While the Technocyte Coda boss battle—a musical showdown against corrupted members of the boyband On-lyne—has been postponed to early 2025, fans can enjoy the newly released single, The Great Despair. This track was unlocked through a month-long ARG created by the Warframe community.

Community Milestones and Upcoming Features

  • Mobile Pre-registration: Android users can now pre-register for Warframe on mobile devices, further expanding access to the game.
  • Charity Milestone: Over one million Canadian dollars were raised for The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation, highlighting the community’s generosity and engagement.

While this marks Warframe’s final Devstream of 2024, Digital Extremes has teased more reveals during upcoming appearances, including a spot on Giant Bomb on Dec. 11 and The Game Awards the following day.
