Warframe’s “Vallis Undermind” Update Brings A Fresh Quest, Mushroom Warframe Nokko, And Oberon Rework This October

Warframe is lining up its next major patch, The Vallis Undermind, for October 15 across all platforms. The free-to-play sci-fi looter shooter, which first launched in 2013, has spent the last few years refining its notoriously dense early game. This update continues that effort with a new cinematic quest aimed at rookies while still giving veterans plenty to chase.
The patch adds the game’s 62nd playable frame, introduces a new subterranean tileset beneath Fortuna, and reworks fan-favorite Oberon. Digital Extremes also confirmed a brief giveaway period for Oberon and teased an upcoming “Protoframe” that ties into future story content.
- New cinematic quest: “The Teacher”
Co-developed with UK studio Sumo Digital, this single-player mission unlocks after the starter quest “Vor’s Prize”. It finally teaches Warframe’s core modding system in a guided, narrative format led by Teshin. Completing it grants players the new Thornbak rifle. - 62nd Warframe: Nokko
A fungus-themed frame that hurls poisonous spores, buffs allies with mushroom pulses, and can briefly transform into a tiny “Sprodling” to heal while untargetable. Nokko’s parts drop from the new Nightcap bounties, or the frame can be bought outright for Platinum. - The Deepmines tileset
An underground extension of Orb Vallis, packed with fungal growths and new Corpus encounters. The area unlocks after the main-story quest “The New War” and features a new bounty vendor named Nightcap. Hidden collectibles called “Foraging Journals” flesh out lore and reward crafting material Fergolyte. - Oberon rework
The paladin-style frame receives streamlined healing, a stronger passive, and higher damage on Reckoning. Anyone who logs in from October 15-21 can claim a free base Oberon. - Protoframe reveal: Roathe
Digital Extremes teased Roathe, voiced by René Zagger (Emet-Selch in Final Fantasy XIV). Lorewise, Roathe is described as the first Orokin protoframe and a precursor to the devil-themed Warframe Uriel, slated for “The Devil’s Triad” update later this year. - Seasonal extras
Halloween-flavored cosmetics, new deluxe skins for Wukong and Lavos, and the next TennoGen round land alongside the patch.
For longtime players, the new content expands Fortuna’s storyline and finally answers fan requests for an Oberon tune-up. For newcomers, “The Teacher” quest is Digital Extremes’ latest attempt to chip away at Warframe’s learning curve, a push that started with 2020’s revamped intro and continued with Duviri Paradox earlier this year.
