It’s been a busy year for Guild Wars 2 with the release of its highly-awaited End of Dragons expansion in February, its 10th anniversary celebrations, Steam launch, and its ongoing Living World Return initiative which saw the classic Season 1 campaign return to the fantasy MMORPG as permanent content. All of which have driven player numbers up to the highest it’s been since 2015.

“This year we’ve already seen more players venture into Tyria for the first time since 2015 — the year we made the base game content playable for free and launched our first expansion, Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns,” announced ArenaNet. “This has been one of the best years for Guild Wars 2 in recent memory, and we’re eager to keep building on that momentum.”

On that note, the studio says that they’ll be taking a break for the holidays and will be back early next year with news on what’s coming to Guild Wars 2 for the first quarter of 2023 which includes new End of Dragons content, transitioning to DirectX 11, in-game browser improvements, and more work on the upcoming World vs. World revamp.

Meanwhile, Wintersday in Tyria is well underway with its usual array of holiday-themed activities and new seasonal rewards.
