With just a few weeks until Final Fantasy XIV Patch 6.1’s mid-April release, the devs are taking time to explain upcoming changes to how land is purchased in the game. With the release of Patch 6.1, all land purchases will go through the new lottery system rather than on a first-come, first-served basis. This will include the new plots of land in Ishgard’s new residential district, Empyreum.

“To purchase land via the lottery system, players must submit a lottery entry for their desired plot during a predetermined period of time. One winning entry will be randomly selected from the pool of applicants, and the player who submitted that entry will gain the ability to finalize their purchase of the plot.”

To enter the lottery, players must meet the minimum eligibility requirements and must deposit the full payment for their chosen plot. Lotter entries can only be submitted during the five-day entry period of each lottery cycle. Note that once submitted, an entry cannot be withdrawn. Winners will be notified after the entry period and will have four days to confirm and finalize land purchases. Non-winning entries will be refunded the full deposit amount.

Players will only be able to submit lotter entries, finalize plot purchases, and claim refunds in the Home World that the entry was submitted in. Transferring to a different Home World during a lottery cycle will forfeit both the entry and deposit. In addition, players who transfer to another Home World will have to wait for the start of the next lottery period to participate.

More information on the new housing lottery system can be found on the Final Fantasy XIV official site.
