Enshrouded’s Server-Wide Quest System Is Proving To Be Extremely Unpopular

Enshrouded seems to be doing pretty well following its early access launch on Steam earlier this week. The multiplayer survival crafting is currently enjoying “Very Positive” reviews and just set an all-time peak concurrency of 160,405 players this morning.
For an early access game, Enshrouded seems to be extremely polished, apart from one glaring issue: its quests are all server-based. That means that if one player completes a quest, he completes it for the entire server, which pretty much ruins the fun for everybody else. It’s currently one of the most requested fixes on the feedback board, with nearly 9,000 votes as of this writing.
Seeing as Enshrouded blends classic RPG elements with survival crafting it makes sense that players will want to experience the RPG part themselves rather than having other players complete it for them. While they do have the option to tag along for the quest, that’s not always plausible, not to mention the amount of effort involved in organizing a group run.
It’s a big blot on what would have otherwise been a shining early access release. It’ll be interesting to see how developer Keen Games addresses the problem. For now, it’s a must that you know how to share.
