Tiny MMO Book Of Travels Opens New Beta Test Environment On Steam

When Might and Delight’s self-described “Tiny MMO” launched into Early Access last year, players were immediately drawn to the game’s beautiful art style and unique gameplay mechanics. The game’s popularity was also undoubtedly helped along by the massive pre-release hype that the studio built up prior to its release.
It’s popularity, however, was short-lived as complaints came pouring in on the 2D-styled MMORPG’s confusing mechanics, mundane combat, slow progression, and the bugs that riddled the game. In response, Might and Delight jumpstarted their update cadence in the hopes of pleasing the disappointed community, which only ended in more bug-ridden content being released without existing ones being fixed.
Over the past few months, the team has stopped rolling out new content and got their head down to work on fixing the issues that plagued the game. As part of their efforts, they’ve now released a new beta environment that will allow players to test out the ongoing core tech and engine upgrades. Note that this separate beta build was made solely to gather feedback, is more unstable than the live version, and will be periodically wiped.
“In essence, what we have done is change some of the core tech the game uses as well as streamlined some of our production pipelines,” said Might and Delight. “Updating the engine comes with several benefits. You should initially notice that the game feels a bit smoother but mostly it allows us to add some new technologies in that we can use in the near future to give you better gameplay, from things like a new Input System (affecting mouse movement and potential controller support) to new cinematic cameras and live real time events.”
As for the live game, Might and Delight promises to reveal a development roadmap in the near future. In the meantime, players who want to help test upcoming updates and improvements can check out the instructions on how to access the new Book of Travels beta environment here.
