Multiplayer RTS Warhammer Age Of Sigmar Kicks Off Its First Open Beta Test

Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Realms of Ruin has kicked off its first open beta test, offering real-time strategy fans a chance to take the game for a spin on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. The open beta offers cross-platform 1v1 multiplayer battles between the Stormcast Eternals and Orruk Kruleboyz factions, providing players with a taste of the fierce competition that awaits them.
“Players will take command in fiercely competitive and visually spectacular fantasy battles,” reads the press release. “They’ll engage in a brutal tug-of-war for control of the map, summoning new troops to the battlefield, gathering resources, capturing Victory Points and ambushing their opponents across multiple fronts. Alongside 1v1 online matches, the Open Beta also offers an option to play against an AI bot.”
One of the key features of the new Warhammer-inspired multiplayer RTS is the ability to use the DirectStep control scheme, which enables rapid-fire movement orders, quick squad cycling, and flexible battlefield command on controllers. The control scheme is available in both the PC and console versions with the option to use the traditional mouse and keyboard controls on both platforms.
Frontier Development hopes to capture the essence of the Warhammer universe with world-class art and animation for each single unit on the battlefield, all of which are inspired by their real-life tabletop versions.
The open beta is now live and will run until 3:59 p.m. PST on July 10th. During the test, the team hopes to put the servers through its paces and gather invaluable feedback to help them fine-tune faction balance ahead of the game’s launch.
Looking ahead, Frontier Developments is planning a second open beta test later this summer, promising more content and opportunities for players to engage with the game. An official release date has yet to be announced.
