Starbase Early Access Launch Has Been Delayed Again, Devs Eye July 29 Release Date
Frozenbyte has delayed Starbase's early access launch for the fifth time since the voxel space MMO was first announced back in 2019. The game was originally supposed to hit early access just a few months after it was announced but was pushed back to 2020 while the developers focused their efforts on closed alpha testing. By November 2020 it was clear that the developers wouldn’t be hitting their target window and launch was again delayed to the first quarter of 2021. The launch was later moved to May 2021, then June 17, and now to July 29.
“The early access release of Starbase set on June 17th will unfortunately have to be delayed,” said Frozenbyte VP Joel Kinnunen. “It’s not a decision we make lightly, but we’ve looked at the release readiness of the game and the feedback from our alpha testers and we decided to delay. We’re simply cutting it too close with everything.”
The studio cites several missing features as the main reason for the delay. These missing features include the new player tutorial, easy build mode, factories, company controls, and a bunch of other features that the developers felt was necessary for a good launch.
The July 29 early access release isn’t a sure thing either. Frozenbyte says that they’ll confirm the actual release date once they’re sure that the game is ready.
