Starbase Community Voices Concerns Over Slow Development Amid Dwindling Playerbase
Frozenbyte’s space sandbox game, Starbase, entered early access in July 2021 with high hopes from its community. Development progress on the game, however, has been worryingly sluggish causing that hope to be replaced with concern.
Despite the launch of several in-game events, including various PvP activities and a community ship showcase, there’s been little substantial progress made on the game in the first half of the year. Updates have been few and far between, with the most notable being a cargo and capital event and a small patch to address a ship deletion bug and introduce a new rocket launcher, marking the game’s first patch in five months.
The community has obviously taken notice of the slow pace, prompting questions about the game’s future. The studio acknowledged the fact back in April 2022, after putting Starbase on the backburner with assurances that it was still being developed but at a slower pace due to their focus on other ongoing projects. The slowdown has persisted and reached a point of near stagnation by last fall. In response to player concerns, the studio said that it will take time for them to get back on track.
While the statement seems to have appeased the community for the time being, there’s also concern about the multiplayer sandbox’s dwindling playerbase, which peaked at just 85 concurrent players over the weekend. Whether the game will be able to generate renewed interest once the updates come rolling down the pipeline still remains to be seen.
