Heroic Games offers a recap of their recently-concluded Ship of Heroes player housing beta, which the studio describes as a huge success. Apparently, lots more people signed up to test the feature and design their very own superhero cribs than the studio had expected.

“Housing isn’t for everyone, but hundreds of people signed up, jumped into Apotheosis City, and play-tested the housing system,” reported Heroic. “Far more people signed up than expected for a narrow event not focused on combat, where most of our missions and raids aren’t available. The vast majority of participants report that they had fun, despite the bugs that need to be fixed; that’s the main measure of success. Player comments have been very positive, beyond the usual little hiccups and suggestions for improvements.”

Players were reportedly enamored by the ability to place anything anywhere without being limited by gravity, as well as the ability to edit and customize most of the available objects. “[…] The variety of layout and customization of décor was praised, with requests for even more variety ranging from pre-designed homes with furnishings to more layouts of larger sizes to creating new layouts by connecting or creating individual rooms.”

There have also been requests for better placement control and new items, furniture, and decorations. While the team admits that some of the suggestions would be difficult to implement, they assure the community that they’ll be addressing them over the next coming months. They’ll also be launching the game with a lot more items than what was available during the test.

Heroic will also be holding another beta test in July in preparation for the game’s impending launch although they weren’t able to give a definite launch date yet. In the meantime, you can check out the player housing beta recap on the Ship of Heroes official site.
