Krafton Teases PUBG: Battlegrounds Extraction Shooter Spinoff Coming In 2024

Krafton is looking to cash in on the popularity of extraction shooters with a PUBG: Battlegrounds spinoff called Project Black Budget. The shooter subgenre was first popularized by Escape From Tarkov and The Division’s Dark Zone game mode a few years back and has continued to gain traction to become the current go-to genre for studios and players.
Not much is known about Krafton’s upcoming entry into the growing extraction shooter pool aside from a launch window sometime in the first half of 2024. What we do know is that it’s going to have to go toe to toe with some heavy hitters, including Hunt: Showdown, The Division 2, Warzone 2’s extremely popular DMZ mode, and Escape from Tarkov itself. My.Games’ HAWKED will also be joining the pool when it launches into early access at the end of the month.
Nexon-subsidiary Embark Studios is also polishing up ARC Raiders for release next year while Bungie is working to get Marathon out in 2025. The latter was initially planned for release in 2024 but was delayed following the recent layoffs and restructuring at Bungie.
However, it’s worth noting that several studios have already tried and failed to capture the attention of extraction shooter fans, so it will be interesting to see how Project Black Budget performs when it comes out.
