NCSoft Reports Earnings - Guild Wars 2 Revenue Hits All Time Lows, Mobile Games Soar

NCSoft reported Q2, 2017 earnings today that showed overall sales increase 8% both quarter over quarter and year over year to $229M. Net income (profit) came in at $27.3 million. The most interesting bit of news from the earnings presentation as usual was the breakdown of sales by franchise:

Guild Wars 2 sales hit an all time low this quarter to $12M, but is expected to increase next quarter with the launch of the Path of Fire expansion. Lineage sales plummeted, but this was largely expected with the launch of Lineage mobile and its cannibalization of the PC game. Blade and Soul is now the company's second highest grossing PC MMORPG and continues to bring in steady revenue.

A mobile version of Guild Wars 2 is in being discussed internally, but nothing has been announced yet.

As always, the majority of revenue at NCSoft came from South Korea with only a tiny fraction (~12%) coming from USA/Europe.

Royalty revenue relates to money made licensing NCSoft titles to other developers. Example: Netmarble licensed "Lineage 2" to make Lineage 2: Revolution.
