Hearthstone has left the Year of the Kraken and is headed into the Year of the Mammoth. Soon, the first expansion of 2017 will be released and previous expansions "Blackrock Mountain, The Grand Tournament, and League of Explorers" will all have their cards relegated to Wild format.

Several cards will also be moving to the Hall of Fame set. They are as follows.

Neutral Cards

  • Azure Drake
  • Sylvanas Windrunner
  • Ragnaros the Firelord

Class Cards

  • Power Overwhelming
  • Ice Lance
  • Conceal

Going forward, three expansions are planned for the Year of the Mammoth. One expansion will be released at the beginning of the year. Another will be released in the middle of the year. The third will be released at the end of the year. All three expansions will consist of around 130 cards.

Blizzard has stated that the new expansions "will include optional single-player missions that will help develop the expansions’ thematic narratives and offer fun challenges." The year's second expansion will be the company's "first step in this new design direction," with more details about the "new release model" set to be revealed in the near future.

Before the Year of the Mamoth begins, Hearthstone players will be able to take part in a daily login event that will award them "dust, gold, and expansion packs, along with a few other surprises." The game's new Rogue Hero, "Maiev Shadowsong," is also set to become available when the Year of the Mammoth begins, with players needing to win only 10 games in either Standard Ranked or Casual mode to obtainher.

Additionally, Blizzard wants to support the Wild format more this year. Plans for supporting it include running "a Heroic Tavern Brawl using the Wild format" and "collaborating with third-party tournament organizers" to try and encourage the use of the Wild format in more tournaments.
