Hearthstone Revisits Un’Goro with ‘The Lost City’ Expansion

Hearthstone has launched its latest expansion, The Lost City of Un’Goro, bringing 145 new cards and introducing fresh mechanics to Blizzard’s long-running digital card game. This marks Hearthstone’s return to the prehistoric Un’Goro Crater, a setting last explored in 2017’s Journey to Un’Goro expansion, and adds new layers to the game’s evolving meta.
As with previous expansions, The Lost City of Un’Goro delivers a mix of new card types, keywords, and gameplay twists. Here’s a breakdown of what’s new:
- Kindred keyword: Cards with this new mechanic receive bonus effects if you played a card of the same minion type or spell school on your previous turn. This encourages more strategic deck building and sequencing.
- Quest keyword (returning): Each class gets a new Legendary Quest card. These 1-cost spells start in your hand and grant powerful rewards once their requirements are fulfilled during a match.
- Story and Map cards: The expansion adds seven Story cards and six Map cards. Story cards provide narrative flavor about previous Un’Goro expeditions, while Map cards allow players to Discover a card and, if played immediately, receive another from the same selection.
- Notable characters: Longtime players will recognize returning faces like Elise Starseeker and Umbra, now playing key roles in this adventure-themed set.
- Limited-time in-game event: Between July 8 and July 29, players can join one of three explorers and complete special Event Quests for rewards.
Hearthstone has maintained its popularity since launch by regularly introducing new mechanics and settings inspired by Warcraft lore. Returning to Un’Goro Crater taps into a fan-favorite theme while offering new strategic opportunities for both veterans and newcomers. Blizzard continues to support the game with regular expansions and limited-time events to keep the experience fresh.
