Guild Wars 2 Temporarily Disables Several Elementalist Traits Due To A Nasty Exploit

ArenaNet was forced to temporarily disable the Weaver and Sunspot Elementalist traits in Guild Wars 2 this past weekend due to a very serious exploit. The team refrained from providing details about the exploit but a large number of players, including YouTuber Mukluk, were able to capture footage of it in action before the traits were disabled, a clip of which you’ll find embedded at the end of this article.

The exploit in question involved using the Weaver elite specialization in tandem with combat tonics and spec swapping to buff elementalist traits through the roof. It basically turned players into walking fireball “demigods” capable of dealing ridiculous amounts of burn damage.

It had apparently been around for quite a while among more experienced players before word got out to the general population thanks to a popular streamer who taught his viewers how to do it. With a lot more players in the know, it’s gotten to the point where every game mode has been rendered unplayable and ArenaNet could no longer turn a blind eye.

“We are temporarily disabling two elementalist minor traits, Weaver and Sunspot, while we address an issue. We will reactivate them as soon as possible,” announced the studio late Saturday night. “This will severely impact the weaver elite spec – we recommend that elementalist players avoid it until this is resolved.”
