ArenaNet has dropped a new preview for Guild Wars 2’s upcoming weapon proficiency update. This time around, the studio shows off how Revenants will make use of its upcoming weapon addition – the Scepter.

In the hands of a Revenant, the scepter turns into a sword for their basic melee attacks and can be used to create a tether to target enemies by triggering the second skill. The tether explodes and deals damage after a set period of time with the explosion damage increasing as the player attacks the target while tethered.

“Revenants wield scepters in an unorthodox way that is unique to their profession,” ArenaNet said. “Having observed the Kryptis in battle, they draw upon their ability to connect individuals together using the scepter as a conduit.”

The Scepter also comes with a third weapon skill that offers a more supportive effect. It can be used to tether to allies to grant them buffs or to enemies to inflict debuffs. The tether’s maximum range for buffs and debuffs also increases as the Revenant lands basic attacks, allowing them to stay at different ranges during the battle.

The preview video below should give you a good idea of how the Revenant’s Scepter will work when the weapon proficiency update lands next year. You can also check out the Thief’s poisonous axe in action here.

ArenaNet will also be kicking off a weapon proficiency beta test on November 28th if you want to get actual hands on time on the new weapon skills ahead of their release.
