Guild Wars 2 Dev Diary Delves Into The Path Of Fire Storyline
The Guild Wars 2 Path of Fire expansion brings players back to the Crystal Desert and the Kingdom of Elona, 250 years after the events of the Guild Wars Nightfall campaign. If you’re a fan of the games you’re probably wondering what happened to the once-prosperous Land of the Golden Sun. You’ll probably have to play the game to find out the whole story but the devs have decided to drop a few hints.
The latest Guild Wars 2 Dev Diary talks about the team’s motivation and inspiration for Path of Fire's storyline. The devs also delve into the process of creating the expansion's story and explains the events leading up to the expansion.
“Returning to Elona and Crystal Desert is something that we had been planning for from the beginning of the launch of Guild Wars 2. We’re bringing back old Gods, why not visit old places? It was a pretty easy decision to go back to Elona, to give players a dose of what they’ve had before, but expand it, and to perpetuate the story we begun and to address some of the major questions players have had.”
The team adds that the Path of Fire expansion is a pivot point in the storyline. “Players have been contesting against elder dragons since the game launched,” says the devs. “We have beaten two of the elder dragons of a possible six, and as a result of beating these two cosmic scale entities, we’re starting to see the repercussions. It seems very much like we shouldn’t kill any more elder dragons, but lo and behold, here comes Balthazar.”
The Guild Wars 2: Path of Fire expansion is slated to come out on September 22nd. Players who pre-purchase the game before the September 22 will receive a Miniature Balthazar, a Sunspear Weapon skin of their choice, and the Elonian Envoy title.
