Guild Wars 2 Celebrates Its 10th Anniversary And Officially Makes Its Way To Steam

It’s a big day for Guild Wars 2 as the long-running MMORPG celebrates its 10th anniversary and officially launches on Steam with plenty of in-game goodies in store for those who join in on the anniversary festivities.
Starting today, you’ll be able to unlock a new series of achievements that will take you on a journey across Tyria to experience the best of what the 10-year-old game has to offer. These achievements will be permanently available so you can take your sweet time completing the given tasks. Unlocking the achievements will reward you with Proofs of Legend that can be exchanged for the new Decade armor set.
You’ll also be to claim a free 10th anniversary gift bundle which contains two Birthday Boosters, a handful of Teleports to Friend, some karma, a bag of Spirit Shards, two Black Lion Statuettes, and a Proof of Legend. There’s also a Decade Anniversary Achievement Box that can be claimed once per account. The box contains a dye of your choice from the Delectable Birthday Dyes, a Guaranteed Wardrobe Unlock, two Anniversary Weapon Packs, and two Dragon Decade Weapon Packs.
Everyone will also get to enjoy a 30% boost to magic find and karma, as well as PvP and WvW reward track progress for one week starting today.
“Guild Wars 2 launched on August 28, 2012, and since then, over sixteen million players from across the globe have stepped into Tyria,” ArenaNet said. “Together, we’ve embarked on epic adventures, forged lifelong friendships and rivalries, created countless memories, and defeated a few dragons in the process, too. Ten years is a remarkable achievement for an online game, especially when you consider that many don’t make it through the first. We continue to be thankful to you, our community—we’re here today because of your support and trust.”
For those who’ve been waiting to play the popular fantasy MMORPG on Steam, it’s finally live on the platform. Steam users will be able to play alongside everyone else on any of the existing servers although those with existing accounts and characters would be better off playing through the original launcher as account linking will not be supported.
“You cannot transfer a Guild Wars 2 account created through the Guild Wars 2 website to Steam and vice versa,” the developers explained. “If you have a Guild Wars 2 account which was created through the Guild Wars 2 website, you cannot log into it through Steam and vice versa. You will need to continue playing on your account using the client from the Guild Wars 2 website. To be able to login from Steam, you must create an account via Steam and use the Steam client to log into the game.”
Additionally, Steam users won’t be able to link their newly-created Guild Wars 2 accounts to their Guild Wars 1 accounts. Those with Guild Wars 1 accounts created through Steam, however, will be able to link their accounts with non-Steam Guild Wars 2 accounts created on the Guild Wars 2 website.
To celebrate the games launch on Steam, ArenaNet has rolled out the Guild Wars 2 Complete Collection which will be available exclusively to Steam users for the time being. The collection will come with a $98.97 price tag and will include all three expansions – Heart of Thorns, Path of Fire, and End of Dragons – as well as all five seasons of the Living World narrative arc.
To cap it all off, you can also grab a free gift package from the cash shop when you login within the next three weeks.
