Genshin Impact Sets Sail for Nod-Krai in September’s ‘Luna I’ Patch, Teases Upcoming UGC Editor

Genshin Impact is about to open the doors to its seventh explorable region. HoYoverse confirmed that Version Luna I – “Song of the Welkin Moon: Segue” goes live on September 10, kicking off a year-long story arc that revolves around the moon and its influence on Teyvat. The patch adds Nod-Krai, a chilly archipelago north of Natlan, alongside fresh quests, three playable characters and a handful of quality-of-life tweaks.
The timing is no coincidence. The free-to-play open-world RPG celebrates its fifth anniversary this fall, and the studio usually pairs big birthday rewards with a headline feature. This year that spotlight is split between Nod-Krai and a long-teased user-generated content suite called Miliastra Wonderland, which is scheduled to arrive in the next update.
What’s inside Version Luna I:
- Nod-Krai becomes the next major region, unlocked after Mondstadt’s story and Adventure Rank 28.
- New Archon Quests push players into a three-way conflict involving the Fatui, the Frostmoon Scions and local Lightkeepers.
- Lauma (5-star Catalyst, Dendro), Flins (5-star Polearm, Electro) and Aino (4-star Claymore, Hydro) join the roster. Aino is free through story progression.
- A new elemental mechanic, Kuuvahki, fuels exploration abilities like temporary shapeshifting and adds “Lunar Reactions” in combat.
- Quality-of-life updates: extra party slots, harvestable materials in the Battle Pass and a preview for locked Artifact sub-stats.
- Masterless Stella Fortuna lets players convert surplus 5-star constellations to raise characters to Level 100.
- Anniversary perks include a selectable free 5-star from the standard banner, 1,600 Primogems, 10 Intertwined Fates and two Nod-Krai-themed gadgets.
The patch is branded “Luna I,” implying several follow-ups in the same vein. HoYoverse says the next update will roll out Miliastra Wonderland, a UGC editor that could extend the game’s life span in the same way Super Mario Maker revitalized Nintendo’s platformers. For a title already known for six-week content cycles, giving players their own creation tools could be the biggest shift since the game’s launch. HoYoverse looks to be transforming Genshin Impact into a platform where users can experience not only the core game as envisioned by HoYoverse, but also other creators.
I'm more excited about the upcoming UGC editor which can be seen in the trailer above, which shows off user created games within Genshin Impact.
