Final Fantasy XIV Releases The Patch 4.2 Dungeon Preview

The Final Fantasy XIV mini-site has been updated, and today's preview gives us our first looks at the two new dungeons coming in Patch 4.2 - Hell's Lid, and The Fractal Continuum (Hard). As this is an even-numbered patch, it follows Final Fantasy XIV's new dungeon release system - every even patch will have two dungeons, and every odd patch will have one dungeon, and one (Ultimate) difficulty raid.

Lets dive into Hell's Lid first.

The Scions of the Seventh Dawn are broke. After the events of Patch 2.5, all of Heavensward, and most of Stormblood, there's little money to be had after all of their adventures. However, a letter has arrived for the Warrior of Light - but before anything can happen, the sender of the letter would have the Warrior of Light venture into Hell's Lid - a volcanic island that takes some influence from the Japanese myths of Onigashima.

Do you miss the Fractal Continuum? Fans of Allag will be delighted to know that Garlond Ironworks has detected an...odd energy source coming from within. Of course, it is all up to the player, the Warrior of Light, to investigate. Because you're the Warrior of Light. And they didn't have anyone better.

I swear, I'm sure there was a set of level 30-50 quests that dealt with this exact thing...

The two new dungeons will drop recolors of the Level 69 Dungeon Gear, Castrum Abania. Players who were fans of the Castrum Abania gear, but did not like the colors, will be delighted to know they can get this gear in new colors - and if The Drowned City of Skalla is anything to go by, they might even be dyable!

Patch 4.2 is still slated for "Late January." No concrete date has been given - but my personal bets are either on January 23rd, or January 30th.
