FFXIV Releases Patch 4.01, new 8-man Raid content "Omega," Balance changes

Final Fantasy XIV's Patch 4.01 is upon us. The first major content patch after the launch of Stormblood, Patch 4.01 brings numerous balance changes, and a new raid tier to experience and challenge. Lets go down some of the changes that caught our eye together.

  • Enmity for the Tank jobs has been increased across the board
  • Buffs to Dark Knight and Ninja DPS
  • Reduction in resource cost for Marauder/Warriors
  • Bard's Troubadour buff now affects themselves.

These are the balance changes, and they're quite disappointing. Warrior is not in a good spot right now, with their Beast Gauge being cut in half every time they switch between DPS stance and Tank stance in battle. On top of that, tanks have been gravitating towards using item level 270 Strength accessories (which provide minimal HP), and forgoing i310 HP accessories. As the item levels continue to climb, the more and more HP Tanks will lose will increase further and further.

As mentioned earlier, Patch 4.01 also brings with it Omega: Deltascape. The Omega Raid will be, if Square Enix continues their trend of 2.0 and 3.0 raids, 12 Raid instances released over the course of 18 months. Omega: Deltascape covers the first four bosses. They are -

  • Deltascape V1.0
  • Deltascape V2.0
  • Deltascape V3.0
  • Deltascape V4.0

You may think these names uncreative, but the 2.0 Raid Tier - the Coils of Bahamut, were literally called "Turn 1," "Turn 2," so on and so forth. Square Enix tried to do something different with the 3.0 Raid Tier, Alexander, but something such as "Alexander: Midas - The Fist of the Son" quickly became "A5." More likely than not, we'll see V1-V12, or O1-O12, with O meaning Omega.

There are also miscellaneous changes, such as increased Font size options, and various bug fixes. Also notably, Yellow Crafter's Scrips and Yellow Gatherer's Scrips have been added for Crafters and Gatherers. These items will let Crafters and Gatherers buy new, higher-tier gear, or trade them in for items that enable them to craft high-tier gear.

You can catch all of the Patch 4.01 changes here. The servers go live on July 4th, 6 AM EDT. See you guys there for the Omega: Deltascape raid tier!
