Development roadmap continues to pour out from MMO developers as we enter the final leg of January. CCP Games has outlined its own plans for EVE Online this year with an overall focus on “conflict, identity, and community.”

The space sci-fi MMORPG’s first expansion of the year has got the conflict part covered with the introduction of new tech and features that will allow players to further expand their holdings into nullsec, which will in turn drive more conflict in the unprotected, free-for-all region.

“Bold and lucrative opportunities will arise for established corporations and alliances, but also for small opportunists that can attack vulnerable areas to gain resources,” promises CCP Games. “One thing is certain, the value of owning and defending space is set to rise.”

The expansion is set to come out this summer and, in addition to the new territory features, will also introduce new skin creation tools and a way for players to share their creations with others. It will also expand the Corporation Projects tool to allow for corporation leaders to create tasks for non-members.

A second expansion is expected to arrive in winter, the details of which will be shared as we move closer to the end of the year.

CCP Games also confirmed the return of annual events such as the Alliance Tournament, Crimson Harvest, and the Winter Nexus holiday event. EVE Online will also be celebrating its 21st anniversary this year, while its EVE Vanguard first-person mode will see the start of a six-month testing phase, presumably after monthly testing ends in June.
