If you missed the EVE Vanguard “first strike” playtest earlier this month, you’ll get more chances to try out to try out the EVE Online first-person shooter mode throughout the first half of 2024. As with the first playtest, you’ll need to be an active subscriber to participate in the succeeding playtests.

“Frenetic, dynamic, and socially driven, EVE Vanguard will put you boots-on-the-ground across the hazardous environments of New Eden,” reads the mode’s description. “As Vanguard, players will fuel the war machine, adding corruption to the frontlines, delivering vital resources to the EVE economy, and completing contracts that turn the tide of battle.”

The next playtest will run from January 25-29 and will include a minor update that will introduce various bug fixes, balance adjustments, and installation improvements. Developer CCP Games will also be opening up two new servers, one in Seoul for the Asia Pacific region and another one in Sao Paolo for players located in South America.

EVE Online subscribers can expect monthly playtests thereafter all the way through June 2024. Each playtest will come with additional updates that will bring more fixes, improvements, and new features, including a new map, additional contracts, mining and weapon modification systems, suppression generation, and more.

As for the first strike playtest, CCP Games reports that it was a resounding success and received extremely positive feedback from testers. That being said, the team also acknowledged several issues with installation, weapon recoil, footstep sound volume, and the anti-cheat system. They also noted that they failed to effectively communicate that Vanguard is still a work-in-progress and that the gameplay experience is far from complete.
