Eternal Tombs Drops 35-Minute Gameplay Video, Promises To Innovate MMORPGs

Back in December 2021, indie developer Triune Studios announced War of Dragnorox, an interesting and ambitious MMORPG that promised hardcore, high-risk gameplay with real-life dungeon masters guiding players through the narrative. It was rebranded earlier this year as Eternal Tombs after the studio decided to tune down its hardcore mechanics and focus more on sandbox elements and open-world exploration.
More recently, the Oregon-based studio released a comprehensive 35-minute gameplay video of the current state of the game with commentary from Creative Director Josh Caba. The video shows off early gameplay footage of the game’s biomes, city gameplay, melee combat, questing, character UI, and more.
During the walkthrough, Caba also threw jabs at microtransaction-fueled MMORPGs with a promise to steer the genre to a brand new direction.
“We hate where the MMORPG market has gone over the last decade,” Caba said. “Instead of epic sieges, intense boss fights, and deep exploration with your friends, we started having to swipe our credit cards to buy cosmetics for games that aren’t even out yet or pay to get faster experience or obviously all the pay-to-win stuff out there, and this is not where this genre should have gone.”
“We intend to innovate and push this genre back into the direction it should have gone to start with,” he added.
Eternal Tombs is scheduled for release in early 2025 with open beta signups now open for those interested in taking the game for a spin ahead of the pack.
