E3 2021: Dean Hall’s Icarus Launches On Steam In August, Will Not Be Free-To-Play

Icarus, RocketWerkz’ new multiplayer survival game, will be launching on Steam on August 11, as announced during the E3 2021 PC Gaming Show. Contrary to earlier reports, however, the upcoming game will not be free-to-play but will instead be buy-to-play with paid chapters and DLCs planned for release in the future.
“We didn’t want the business model to get in the way of the game experience,” explained RocketWerkz Founder and DayZ creator Dean Hall. “We also heard loud and clear from our community that they wanted to avoid the pitfalls of free-to-play. We want Icarus to continually evolve as a living game, always adding new session challenges and game modes. We think regular chapters and content updates are a great way to deliver.”
Icarus features session-based PvE survival gameplay for up to eight players. The game drops players into the planet Icarus with limited resources and tasks them with locating and extracting valuable exotic matter while making sure that they make it back to the dropship in time.
“Explore a savage alien wilderness in the aftermath of terraforming gone wrong. Survive long enough to mine exotic matter, then return to orbit to craft more advanced tech. Meet your deadline or be left behind forever.”
Icarus is normally priced at $29.99 and is currently on sale at 10% off for a limited time on Steam. A Deluxe Edition, which includes free access to two future DLCs, is also available for $89.99 (originally $99.99).
