RocketWerkz Introduces Icarus: No Rescue With A Documentary-Style Trailer

icarus no rescue landing gear shot bannerRocketWerkz has just released an eight-minute long trailer that introduces players to the world of Icarus: No Rescue. The documentary-style trailer combines live action footage with CG to tell the story of the first prospectors to set foot on planet Icarus in search of exotic matter.

“Filmed in a vivid documentary style with live actors, Icarus: No Rescue is told from the perspective of the earliest prospectors to come to planet Icarus after its terraforming failed, looking back twenty years later. Their search for exotic matter pushed them to their limits as they survived off the land in this brutal alien world. Those who missed their dropship’s return to orbit were left behind forever, while others grew rich crafting exotic matter into new technologies.”

Icarus: No Rescue is a UE4 session-based PvE survival game that can be played solo or with a team of up to 8 players. Players are dropped into planet Icarus with limited resources and tasked with locating and extracting exotic matter while making sure that they make it back to the dropship in time. As they search for exotic matter, players must gather resources, hunt wildlife, build a shelter, and craft the tools and machineries necessary to survive in the hostile environment. Each session can last from a few hours to a few days or weeks.

“Icarus was humanity’s greatest mistake,” explained creator and RocketWerkz CEO Dean Hall. “It was to be a second Earth, the first planet we terraformed and colonised in space. Unknown to us the exotic matter reacted and corrupted the planet’s terraforming, but once we realised their true value the exotics sparked an interstellar gold rush.”

Hall is best known for creating the post-apocalyptic zombie game, DayZ.

The studio plans to add chapters, more content, and expand the game’s lore over the next few years. Chapter 1: The First Cohort will ease players into the game by starting off in Earth-like biomes. As the game expands, players will be able to explore more alien and more challenging zones.

Icarus: No Rescue will launch on PC via Steam later this year. Watch out for regular Twitch streams where the devs will be playing the game to show off actual gameplay footage. “We know that players really want to see the game in action next,” said Hall. “So rather than another gameplay-oriented trailer, we plan to start regular developer streams on Twitch and just start playing it with our community.”

The team will be holding their first gameplay stream on Thursday, April 8 at 5pm PST on the game’s official Twitch channel. In the meantime, you can check out the new trailer below to get acquainted with the game’s lore.
