Dungeon Defenders II Loot and Survive Patch Detailed
The upcoming Loot and Survive patch for Dungeon Defenders II, due out tomorrow, has been detailed in a new Steam Community update. The patch aims to improve the overall flow of player progression, as well as revamping several major systems on top of that. Someone in the accompanying video says that it is the most fun he's had since the first Dungeon Defenders and, considering I imagine I'm not alone in continually feeling that the game was lacking in some way throughout Early Access, that line alone has piqued my interest enough to try again when the patch launches tomorrow.
The first, most immediately noticeable addition in this update is a proper tutorial. While existing Dungeon Defenders fans could stumble their way through the minor differences in the flow of gameplay, Dungeon Defenders can certainly be overwhelming at first, making this new tutorial a long overdue necessity. In addition to the tutorial, quests have been added to help guide new players through the game world.
An entire revamp of loot and stats has also occurred, adding new stats, new passives, and new loot in the process. The most notable change is the fact that rarities are now actual denotations of rarity, rather than a tier as is commonplace in modern online RPGs. Now, if you come across a "rare" item, you know that it truly is rare.
Various smaller updates, including four new "Nightmare" difficulty modes, new pets, and an Onslaught mode where players face an infinite number of waves, receiving rewards every three waves, have also been added. Personally, my favorite part of the entire set of patch notes is the fact that matchmaking has been updated. Gone are the days of consistently switching taverns. The series returns to a setup in which you can choose the map, mode, and difficulty you want without traveling.
This update is massive and, as you would expect, will take time to set up properly. The team expects the servers to be offline most of tomorrow. Also expect "Wipeageddon" to occur, as is customary with these sorts of extensive updates.
