Might and Delight continues its Inside Book of Travels video series with a quick look at the game’s character creator. If you’re a fan of old school roleplaying MMORPGs, then you’ll appreciate the fact that the upcoming game’s character creator will allow players to create elaborate backstories for their characters in addition to customizing their appearance and skills.

“What does it mean to create a character in RPGs? We at Might and Delight have played RPGs all our lives – from table-top Dungeons and Dragons to masterpieces like Baldur's Gate, and we appreciate that creating a character is the first step in all great adventures. Our character creation process is just one of the ways that a Book of Travels experience is personal and unique to you.”

When I say create backstories, I don’t just mean in your head. The character creator comes with a biography field where you can write about your character’s life story and his or her motivations for adventuring in Braided Shore. Players will also be able to choose their character’s personality and their “Form”, the game’s rough equivalent of classes.

“Your chosen form determines a range of options and preset characteristics for your wanderer and can also inspire you to roleplay in a certain way,” reads the in-game description. “There are several start-up forms to choose from as well as more unique ones that you may discover and unlock on your travels across Braided Shore.”

Programmer and Game Designer Arvid shows off the character creation system in the new preview video after the break. The game itself is slated to launch on Steam on August 30.
