Will Blitzball Make A Comeback In Final Fantasy XIV?

Yoshi-P (Naoki Yoshida) is not ruling out the possibility that Blitzball will make its grand return some time in the future of Final Fantasy XIV, especially now that swimming will be coming to the game. The FFXIV director and producer revealed the Blitzball potential in a press conference at the Frankfurt Fan Fest which Gamer Escape thankfully transcribed (hats off to you). 

When asked about  Blitzball, Yoshi-P responded: 

Yoshida: To be honest, yes we have plans, maybe. The thing is, we’ve run into a few problems, there’s the opinion that if we released it as it was in FFX, players might lose interest in it quickly. Then on the team we had the idea of OK because we’re an MMO, lets make something that fits with the style of game we have. However if we do that, then we’re going away from the Blitzball people know and expect. We’re trying to find a good mix of both sides. Because we have swimming and diving, its natural to get that in the game.

I can't say I expected Blitzball to ever come back. There were two types of Final Fantasy X players: people who loved the Blitzball mini-game and people who loathed the Blitzball mini-game. I'm securely in the latter. 

So it's just a possibility that Blitzball will make it to FFXIV. Not a confirmed guarantee. I imagine the FFXIV team has other priorities to take care of before they bring back trying your best as part of the Besaid Aurochs.
