Baldur’s Gate 3 Launches On Steam And The Download Server Are Swamped

Dungeons & Dragons fans can now return to Larian Studios’ virtual version of Forgotten Realms as Baldur’s Gate 3 officially launches on PC.
It’s a pretty big launch too with Steam’s servers nearly buckling from the strain as hordes of players simultaneously tried to download the game from the platform. Steam Stats reported a peak bandwidth usage of over 146 Tbps, that’s three times the peak server load that Cyberpunk 2077 set when it launched.
“More than twenty years after the release of Baldur’s Gate 2, it’s finally time to return to the Forgotten Realms,” Larian Studios announced. “Your choices shape this tale of fellowship and betrayal, sacrifice and survival, and the lure of absolute power.”
Baldur’s Gate 3 features a comprehensive lineup of classes and races to choose from, allowing them to create unique characters tailored to their preferred playing styles. Players can also choose to roll one of the pre-created Origin heroes, including the Dark Urge, a fully-customizable Origin hero with its own unique storyline and mechanics.
“Whoever you choose to be, you’re free to adventure, loot, battle and romance your way across the Forgotten Realms and beyond,” said the studio.
Baldur’s Gate 3 is now available on PC via Steam, Nvidia GeForce Now, and GOG and will be launching on PlayStation 5 next month. You’ll find the official launch trailer below.
