Amazon Games Montreal Opens Closed Alpha Sign-Ups for New MOBA March of Giants

Amazon Games is taking another swing at competitive multiplayer with March of Giants, a free-to-play “war MOBA” that mixes hero combat with large-scale army control. The studio’s first in-house project from its Montreal team will run a closed alpha on PC from September 2 to 10, 2025, and players in the United States, Canada, and Mexico can already request access through Steam.

The project reunites several developers who helped shape Rainbow Six Siege, including creative director Xavier Marquis. While Amazon has previously focused on MMOs like New World and Lost Ark, this will be the company's first MOBA. Though arguably Amazon's first title 'Breakway' was a MOBA of sorts. With MOBAs still dominated by League of Legends and Dota 2, March of Giants aims to carve space by adding large armies and light base-building to the familiar three-lane formula.

Key details from the alpha announcement:

  • Platform and region: PC only, limited to North American players (US, Canada, Mexico) for the first test.
  • Closed alpha dates: September 2-10, 2025, under NDA.
  • Match format: 4-versus-4 hero battles set on an early-1900s-inspired urban battlefield.
  • Roster size: 15 playable “Giants” at alpha launch, with 10 unlocked from the start.
  • Mechanics highlighted:
    • Control a towering Giant with its own ability kit.
    • Command thousands of AI soldiers to push lanes or reinforce positions.
    • Build “Battleworks” structures that add extra defensive or offensive options mid-match.
  • How to join: Request access on the game’s Steam page while logged into a Steam account.

Amazon says the test will focus on server stability and core gameplay feedback before expanding to additional regions and languages. With competition in the MOBA space as fierce as ever, March of Giants represents an ambitious attempt to stand out through sheer scale and hybrid strategy elements. The coming alpha should reveal whether that ambition translates into moment-to-moment fun.
