The Weekly Raid: Would You Buy A Max Level Character Boost?

WildStar's latest update enables players to purchase a level 50 toon, maxing out their character without putting in the grind. In the past I abhorred the notion, I would "/spit" all over anyone who dared not trudge through the leveling process. But now as grey hairs slowly take over my cranium I'm starting to think it's not such a bad offer.

In some games I can't stand leveling—namely WildStar. On the other hand, an MMO can excels in some other aspect: dungeons, PvP, a marriage system (it could happen). And I want to play. I don't want to spend hours engaging in content I don't find amusing.

Of course the converse is that I'm not committed then, I'm not a fan of the MMORPG: "go play something else." Buying max level circumvents the intention of orthodox progression, and can can be construed as pay-to-win if max level is considered a win-state (something I don't agree with).

But more games are allowing players to buy their way to the top, including World of Warcraft. It's a trend that's likely to continue.

From Mega Man II to Ape Escape, I've been playing games for as long as I can remember. I've spent months killing porings in Ragnarok Online and more recently lived a second life in Eve Online. I usually play as gUMBY, gUMBLEoni, or gUMBLes in-game.
