Fun is hard to define, we don't launch a game and immediately feel some emotion like ecstasy that tells us we're having fun. Most times, at least in my experience, it's been a moment. A single moment that sells me on a game, a kind of eureka that says, "Yeah, I did get my money's worth, and when I step back from this game I can say 'I had fun.'"

Here's one. I was wary about Rust—I'm talking old school Rust when it still had zombies. The concept didn't excite me, and it was only because of a friend that I hopped in. His enthusiasm snared me. But then I can remember the moment that lead me to invest hundreds of hours into Rust: I lined up bow, not thinking much of it, on a naked man running through the woods, flapping with the wind. I click and let arrow fly, and I nailed him: headshot. As his rag-doll body rocketed forward, I had an epiphany: I'm having fun.

So, in what moment did you realize you were having fun in an MMORPG? Or maybe it never was a moment. You tell us. Let us know in the comments below!

From Mega Man II to Ape Escape, I've been playing games for as long as I can remember. I've spent months killing porings in Ragnarok Online and more recently lived a second life in Eve Online. I usually play as gUMBY, gUMBLEoni, or gUMBLes in-game.
