League of Legends 

 

2016 League of Legends World Championship

The biggest international tournament for the biggest eSport is finally here: the 2016 League of Legends World Championship. With over $2 million on the line and eternal glory, six different regions and sixteen teams will come together across the United States.

The first event is the Group Stage which will take place in the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco, CA from September 29 - October 2 and October 6-9.

Next, the Quarterfinals takes place in The Chicago Theater in Chicago, IL from October 13-16.

After that, the Semifinals takes place in iconic Madison Square Garden in New York, NY.

Finally, the Finals are set to come back to the STAPLES Center in Los Angeles, CA. Notably, the same location as the 2013 Worlds Finals.

Last week, the Group Draws took place and the top teams of each region were placed into their groups.

Here are the groups:

Group A:

  • Rox Tigers (LCK)
  • G2 Esports (EU LCS)
  • Counter Logic Gaming (NA LCS)
  • Albus Nox Luna (CIS)

Group B:

  • Flash Wolves (LMS)
  • SK Telecom T1 (LCK)
  • Team I May (LPL)
  • Cloud9 (NA LCS)

Group C:

  • Edward Gaming (LPL)
  • AHQ e-Sports Club (LMS)
  • H2k Gaming (EU LCS)
  • INTZ e-Sports (CBLoL)

Group D:

  • TSM (NA LCS)
  • Royal Never Give Up (LPL)
  • Samsung Galaxy (LCK)
  • Splyce (EU LCS)

The top two of each group will qualify for the Quarterfinals in Chicago.

DreamHack Bucharest 2016

DreamHack Bucharest 2016 was a Premier tournament that took place from September 16-19 in Bucharest, Romania. With a prize pool of $100,000, eight different teams competed in a double elimination group stage and a single-elimination playoff.

Here were the participating teams:

  • Cloud9
  • Team Dignitas
  • Team EnVyUs
  • FaZe Clan
  • FlipSid3 Tactics
  • Virtus.pro
  • Gambit Gaming
  • Heroic

Here's how the tournament went:

Virtus.pro and Team EnVyUs got out of Group A and Cloud9 and Team Dignitas got out of Group B.

In the Playoffs,  Virtus.pro and Cloud9 both beat their Semifinal match 2-1 to advance to the Finals. In the Finals, Virtus.pro was able to sweep Cloud9 2-0 by taking Train 16-9 and Cobblestone 16-9 as well. With this win, Virtus.pro earned $50,000 and are the DreamHack Bucharest Champions.

ESL Pro League Season 4

The fourth season of the ESL Pro League has started in both Europe and North America. This premier tournament runs from August 17 to October 13 to the finals in Brazil from October 28-30. The Finals involves a $750,000 prize pool and the top four seeds from EU and NA respectively.

The MarsTV Dota 2 League 2016 Autumn tournament takes place in Xiamen, China from September 28 to October 2. Only LGD Gaming and Newbee are confirmed so far as its participants.

Overwatch World Cup 2016

The Overwatch World Cup has sixteen teams representing different nations competing from November 5-6 in BlizzCon, Anaheim, California.

Lenovo Cup

WePlay.tv and Lenovo organized the Overwatch Lenovo Cup, featuring 8 teams and a $8,000 prize pool. Taking place from September 5-22, teams will first play in a Group Stage and a double elimination playoff. Here are the teams participating:

  • REUNITED
  • Misfits
  • Team Dignitas
  • Luminosity Gaming
  • ANOX
  • TORNADO ROX
  • Ninjas in Pyjamas
  • Team EndPoint

So far, Misfits and REUNITED have taken the first and second place seeds in Group A while Ninjas in Pyjamas and Luminosity Gaming took Group B. With these group stage results, these four teams will face each other in the Semifinals while TORNADO ROX and Team Dignitas, the third place teams, will play against the Losers.
