In the last week of the regular season TSM swept Immortals 2-0 in the first game of the week. While the Immortals are definitely the second best team in the league, TSM has a clear lead as Immortals seem to take close wins against a variety of teams in the league. Cloud9 also had a great week making look like strong contenders in the upcoming Playoffs.

EU LCS Recap and Standings

Unlike the NA LCS, the EU LCS uses best of twos which leads to a point system. A 2-0 win gives 3 points. A tie gives 1 point per team. A loss gives no points.

Here's how the matches went in week eight:

Day 1:

  1. G2 Esports vs Vitality (1-1)
  2. Fnatic vs ROCCAT (1-1)
  3. Origen vs Splyce (0-2)
  4. Schalke 04 vs Giants (1-1)
  5. Unicorns of Love vs H2K (0-2)

Day 2:

  1. Giants vs ROCCAT (0-2)
  2. Schalke 04 vs Team Vitality (1-1)
  3. Unicorns of Love vs Splyce (2-0)
  4. Origen vs H2K (0-2)
  5. G2 Esports vs Fnatic (2-0)
  6. Team Vitality vs Schalke 04 (1-0)
  7. H2K vs Fnatic (1-0)

The final and ninth week of the EU LCS Regular Season, Fnatic fell after losing to G2 Esports and losing to H2K in the tiebreaker. G2 Esports is looking like the favorite to win the season with Splyce and a revitalized H2K behind them. While H2K, Giants, and Fnatic seemingly have the same amount of points, the difference shown between H2K and Fnatic in the tiebreaker suggests a significant gap.

Final Standings

1. G2 Esports (38 PTS) (10W-8T-0L)

2. Splyce (33 PTS) (9W-6T-3L)

3. H2K (27 PTS) (8W-6T-5L)

Virtus.pro wins ELEAGUE Season 1

HEADER_TA_3.jpg

ELEAGUE, organized by Turner Sports and WME/IMG, was a new premier CS:GO tournament that featured an outstanding $1,400,00 prize pool. The tournament was broadcasted on TBS, running from May 24th to July 30th.

The tournament has drawn to a close with Virtus.pro sweeping every match they were in to take the $400,000 USD grand prize and the first ELEAGUE Championship. What is extraordinary is that Virtus.pro was almost eliminated from the entire tournament after losing 2-0 to Team EnVyUs in their Group Finals. Thanks to the Last Chance Bracket, each second place team of each group had the opportunity to fight for a chance to play in the playoffs. Virtus.pro never looked back and have won five consecutive best-of-threes in clean sweeps to win the championship.

Here's their path to victory:

Team Empire Wins Global Grand Masters

File:Globalgrandmasters.jpeg

Organized by ProDotA, Global Grand Masters Season 1 featured four invited top tier teams and four qualified up and coming teams playing for a $50,000 prize pool. The tournament featured a double elimination bracket with best-of-three matches and a best-of-five final.

These were the participants:

  • Alliance
  • Team Empire
  • Team Liquid
  • Vega Squadron
  • Escape Gaming
  • Ad Finem
  • FlipSid3 Tactics
  • Power Rangers

Team Empire was victorious over the unlikely challenger Vega Squadron. While Alliance looked like the clear runner-up for most of the tournament, Vega Squadron was able to get revenge and 2-0 Alliance in the Losers' Finals to qualify for the Grand Finals. Unfortunately for Vega Squadron, Team Empire was able to sweep them 3-0 to take home $25,000 USD.

BTS Overwatch Cup

Organized by Beyond The Summit, the BTS Overwatch Cup has a prize pool of $10,000 and will run from July 9 to August 7. Each week, two teams qualify for the Playoffs which are in a double elimination format.

Week 2 has went under way with Cloud9 and Team Liquid both demonstrating that they are in another tier from other teams. Besides a lapse against Sodipop, both Cloud9 and Liquid did not drop a single game.

With Week 2 finished, the playoffs will begin with Team EnVyUs, Code7, Cloud9, and Team Liquid.

The Overwatch Open

ELEAGUE and FACEIT partnered together to organize the biggest Overwatch tournament in history. Taking place at Turner Studios' ELEAGUE arena in Atlanta, competitors will be playing for a massive $300,000 USD prize pool. Notably, the Grand Finals will also be broadcast live on TBS.

The tournament starts with a European and North American phase, until the playoffs which will occur from August 26-28.

The first qualifiers have already finished with Team EnVyUs qualifying for NA and Misfits qualifying for EU. This week's winners were Cloud9 for NA and Rogue for EU and they will join them along with four other teams to qualify for their respective Regional Playoffs. Along with those automatically qualified for winning one of the four qualifying tournaments, the twelve teams from each region with the greatest remaining amount of points will also qualify to compete in the regional playoffs. The best team from each regional playoff will face each other in the Grand Finals in Atlanta.
