NA LCS Recap and Standings

The eighth week of the NA LCS has finished!

Day 1:

  1. Immortals vs NRG Esports (2-0)
  2. Echo Fox vs Apex (1-2)

Day 2:

  1. Counter Logic Gaming vs Liquid (2-1)
  2. Team Envy vs Cloud9 (0-2)
  3. TSM vs Phoenix1 (1-2)
  4. Apex vs Immortals (0-2)

Day 3:

  1. NRG Esports vs Liquid (0-2)
  2. TSM vs Team Envy (2-0)
  3. Cloud9 vs Phoenix1 (2-0)
  4. Echo Fox vs Counter Logic Gaming (0-2)

In the eighth week of the NA LCS, the biggest story is the biggest upset where Phoenix1, ninth place and the only team to lose to Echo Fox, was able to beat TSM 2-1. While TSM's record is still stellar, the team now has the same win-loss score as Immortals and could potentially lose their first place standing in their epic battle next week. With only one more week until the regular season comes to a close, teams such as Apex could still qualify for the playoffs.

Week 8 Standings

1. TSM (15W-1L) (Game Record: 31-5)

2. Immortals (15W-1L) (Game Record: 31-7)

3. Cloud9 (10W-6L) (Game Record: 24-16)

4. Counter Logic Gaming (9W-7L) (Game Record: 22-18)

5. Liquid (9W-7L) (Game Record: 21-17)

6. Team Envy (7W-9L) (Game Record: 14-23)

7. Apex (6W-10L) (Game Record: 17-23)

8. NRG Esports (4W-12L) (Game Record: 12-25)

9. Phoenix1 (4W-12L) (Game Record: 12-28)

10. Echo Fox (1W-15L) (Game Record: 8-30)

Week 9 Preview

This is the matchup the world has been waiting for: Immortals versus TSM. With an identical 15W-1L record, this game alone will decide who takes the first seed for the playoffs. While second seed sounds pretty good as well, getting the first seed will guarantee matches against the lowest seeded teams which considerably increases the chance to go further in the tournament.

EU LCS Recap and Standings

Unlike the NA LCS, the EU LCS uses best of twos which leads to a point system. A 2-0 win gives 3 points. A tie gives 1 point per team. A loss gives no points.

Here's how the matches went in week eight:

Day 1:

  1. Fnatic vs Splyce (0-2)
  2. H2K vs Team Vitality (2-0)
  3. Origen vs Giants (0-2)
  4. G2 Esports vs Unicorns of Love (2-0)
  5. Schalke 04 vs ROCCAT (0-2)

Day 2:

  1. H2K vs Splyce (0-2)
  2. Giants vs Team Vitality (2-0)
  3. G2 Esports vs Schalke 04 (2-0)
  4. Unicorns of Love vs ROCCAT (2-0)
  5. Origen vs Fnatic (1-1)

The eighth week of the EU LCS demonstrated the strength of Splyce as a top team. With their win against Fnatic and H2K, two playoff-level teams, Splyce has gained a strong foothold in the top two and could potentially be in range for first. With only one more week to go, teams will be fighting for the highest seed possible for the playoffs.

Week 8 Standings

1. G2 Esports (34 PTS) (9W-7T-0L)

2. Splyce (30 PTS) (8W-6T-2L)

3. Fnatic (26 PTS) (7W-5T-4L)

4. Giants (23 PTS) (7W-2T-7L)

5. H2K (21 PTS) (5W-6T-5L)

6. Unicorns of Love (20 PTS) (5W-5T-6L)

7. Team Vitality (16 PTS) (3W-7T-6L)

8. FC Schalke 04 (16 PTS) (3W-7T-6L)

9. Origen (14 PTS) (2W-8T-6L)

10. ROCCAT (11 PTS) (2W-5T-9L)

Week 9 Preview

In the last week of the regular season, the game to watch is G2 Esports vs Fnatic. Both strong teams, Fnatic has the opportunity to upset the dominant G2 Esports and make a statement before the playoffs.

LCK Recap and Standings

Week 9 Results:

Day 6:

  1. Afreeca Freecs vs SKTelecom T1 (2-0)
  2. ESC Ever vs MVP (2-1)

History was made this week in Korea as the Afreeca Freecs became the first team to beat SKTelecom T1 twice in a split. While this may be a testament to how dominant SKT has been in the past, Afreeca Freecs have somehow become SKT's kryptonite. ROX Tigers, on the other hand, looks dominant and is likely the first seed going into the playoffs. Nevertheless, only a fool would underestimate the power of playoff SKT which is always dominant and always a champion.

Week 8 Standings

1. ROX Tigers (12W-3L)

2. SKTelecom T1 (10W-4L)

3. Samsung Galaxy (10W-5L)

4. KT Rolster (9W-5L)

Week 10 Preview

In week 10, SKT seems ready to bounce back since there aren't any teams in the upper seeds on the same skill level. The series to watch will be MVP vs Jin Air Green Wings as Jin Air looks to get in the top six.

ELEAGUE Season 1

HEADER_TA_3.jpg

ELEAGUE, organized by Turner Sports and WME/IMG, is a new premier CS:GO tournament that features an outstanding $1,400,00 prize pool. The tournament will be broadcast on TBS, running from May 24th to July 30th.

The Quarterfinals of the playoffs have finished with Fnatic beating Team EnVyUs 2-0, Natus Vincere beating Cloud9 2-1, mousesports beating Astralis 2-0, and Virtus.pro beating Ninjas in Pyjamas 2-0.

One of the most exciting thing about this tournament so far is that the two teams who were able to qualify for the playoffs through the Last Chance Bracket were able to dominate 2-0. Now, mousesports and Virtus.pro will meet in the Semifinals for the chance to be in the first ELEAGUE Grand Finals. Fnatic faces Natus Vincere in the other side of the Semifinals. With a $1,400,000 USD prize pool on the line, this will be a tournament to watch.

Global Grand Masters

File:Globalgrandmasters.jpeg

Organized by ProDotA, Global Grand Masters Season 1 features four invited top tier teams and four qualified up and coming teams playing for a $50,000 prize pool. The tournament features a double elimination bracket with best-of-three matches and a best-of-five final.

These are the participants:

  • Alliance
  • Team Empire
  • Team Liquid
  • Vega Squadron
  • Escape Gaming
  • Ad Finem
  • FlipSid3 Tactics
  • Power Rangers

The tournament is nearly at its end with Team Empire's victory over Alliance 2-1 in the Winners' Finals. The only matches left are the Losers' Finals between Alliance and Vega Squadron and the Grand Finals where Team Empire awaits. Alliance is expected to beat Vega Squadron as they were able to take them 2-0 in the Semifinals. Whatever the result is, the Grand Finals should be a series to watch.

StarLadder i-League StarSeries Season 2

In its second season, the StarLadder i-League Star Series featured eight teams from Europe, America, China, and Southeast Asia. Going from July 21-24, these teams played for a #300,000 USD prize pool. The tournament was set up with a Double Elimination bracket with best-of-three matches and a best-of-five Grand Final.

The participants were:

  • Evil Geniuses (Direct Invite)
  • Team Secret (Direct Invite)
  • Natus Vincere (Direct Invite)
  • F.R.I.E.N.D.S. (Europe Qualifier)
  • CDEC Youth (China Qualifier)
  • Digital Chaos (America Qualifier)
  • compLexity Gaming (H-Cup Winner)
  • Fnatic (SEA Qualifier)

This tournament demonstrated how double elimination could create compelling storylines with Natus Vincere making it to the Winners' Finals only to be swept against Team Secret, 2-0. In the Losers' bracket, Fnatic was able to beat fight from the bottom of the bracket until losing to Natus Vincere 2-0. In epic fashion, Natus Vincere was able to get a revenge win against Team Secret in the series that mattered, the Grand Finals. Winning 3-1, Natus Vincere became the champions of StarLadder i-League Star Series Season 2 and won a handsome $135,000 USD.

The first qualifiers have already finished. In NA, Team EnVyUs finished first, TSM second, and Luminosity Gaming and Cloud9 took third and fourth. Team EnVyUs never dropped a single game which demonstrates their dominance so far. In EU, Misfits took first place, ANOX second, and Rogue and Creation eSports took third and fourth.
