NA LCS Recap and Standings

The fourth week of the NA LCS has finished!

Day 1:

  1. Counter Logic Gaming vs Immortals (1-2)
  2. Liquid vs Apex (2-0)

Day 2:

  1. Cloud9 vs Team Envy (2-0)
  2. TSM vs Echo Fox (2-1)
  3. Immortals vs Liquid (2-0)
  4. NRG Esports vs Phoenix1 (2-1)

Day 3:

  1. Cloud9 vs NRG Esports (2-0)
  2. Team Envy vs TSM (0-2)
  3. Phoenix1 vs Counter Logic Gaming (0-2)
  4. Apex vs Echo Fox (2-0)

In the fourth week of the NA LCS Summer Split TSM continues to dominate with a strong victory over Team Envy. While they dropped a game to Echo Fox due to a horrid baron call, TSM looks as strong as ever. Immortals and Cloud9 are also doing well and are the most likely contenders for TSM.

1. TSM (8W-0L) (Game Record: 16-3)

2. Immortals (7W-1L) (Game Record: 15-5)

3. Cloud9 (6W-2L) (Game Record: 14-7)

4. Team Envy (5W-3L) (Game Record: 10-9)

5. Liquid (4W-4L) (Game Record: 9-9)

6. Apex (4W-4L) (Game Record: 10-10)

7. Counter Logic Gaming (3W-5L) (Game Record: 9-11)

8. NRG Esports (2W-6L) (Game Record: 7-13)

9. Echo Fox (1W-7L) (Game Record: 4-14)

10. Phoenix1 (0W-8L) (Game Record: 3-16)

Week 5 Preview

Despite the rankings, TSM and CLG games are always worth watching. Immortals and Cloud9 is also a must-see as these two teams are almost neck-in-neck.

EU LCS Recap and Standings

Unlike the NA LCS, the EU LCS uses best of twos which leads to a point system. A 2-0 win gives 3 points. A tie gives 1 point per team. A loss gives no points.

Here's how the matches went:

Day 1:

  1. FC Schalke 04 vs G2 Esports (1-1)
  2. Team Vitality vs Giants (1-1)
  3. Fnatic vs Origen (1-1)
  4. ROCCAT vs Unicorns of Love (1-1)
  5. Splyce vs H2K (1-1)

Day 2:

  1. Giants vs FC Schalke 04 (0-2)
  2. ROCCAT vs Fnatic (0-2)
  3. Team Vitality vs G2 Esports (1-1)
  4. H2K vs Unicorns of Love (0-2)
  5. Splyce vs Origen (1-1)

In the fourth week, EU had seven ties out of the ten matches. Notably, all of the games on the first day were ties. This suggests that no one team is dominant and the split is still up in the air. Fnatic rose to first place given G2's inability to get a win out of both FC Schalke 04 and Team Vitality.

Here are the standings after four weeks of play:

1. Fnatic (17 PTS) (5W-2T-1L)

2. G2 Esports (16 PTS) (4W-4T-0L)

3. H2K (13 PTS) (3W-4T-1L)

4. FC Schalke 04 (12 PTS) (3W-3T-2L)

5. Splyce (10 PTS) (2W-4T-2L)

6. Team Vitality (8 PTS) (1W-5T-2L)

7. Giants (7 PTS) (2W-1T-5L)

7. Unicorns of Love (7 PTS) (2W-1T-5L)

9. ROCCAT (7 PTS) (1W-4T-3L)

9. Origen (7 PTS) (1W-4T-3L)

Week 5 Preview

The series to watch is definitely Fnatic vs G2 Esports. As the first two seeds, this series should be close and competitive.

LCK Recap and Standings

Week 5 Results:

Day 1:

  1. Jin Air Green Wings vs MVP (0-2)

Day 2:

  1. Samsung Galaxy vs KT Rolster (2-0)

Day 3:

  1. SKTelecom T1 vs Afreeca Freecs (0-2)
  2. MVP vs CJ ENTUS (2-0)

Day 4:

  1. Jin Air Green Wings vs ROX Tigers (0-2)

Day 5:

  1. ESC Ever vs Samsung Galaxy (1-2)
  2. Longzhu Gaming vs SKTelecom T1 (0-2)

Day 6:

  1. CJ ENTUS vs KT Rolster (1-2)
  2. ROX Tigers vs Afreeca Freecs (2-0)

The notable series is SKT vs Afreeca Freecs where the two-time world champions were soundly beaten by the low ranked Afreeca Freecs. This is particularly ironic as the SKT head coach predicted that SKT would be weak early in this split. When the team then dominated a number of games in a row, he gave an apology for this prediction. Despite this two loss streak, SKT was able to spring back with a strong 2-0 win against Longzhu Gaming.

Here are the standings after five weeks of play:

1. ROX Tigers (7W-2L)

2. KT Rolster (6W-2L)

2. SKTelecom T1 (6W-2L)

4. Samsung Galaxy (6W-3L)

5. Jin Air Green Wings (5W-3L)

6. MVP (3W-4L)

7. Afreeca Freecs (3W-5L)

8. Longzhu Gaming (2W-6L)

8. ESC Ever (2W-6L)

10. CJ ENTUS (1W-8L)

Week 6 Preview

Next week is a short week with only four matches. The match to watch will be KT Rolster vs Jin Air Green Wings: two contenders for the top three.

Immortals win DreamHack Summer 2016

DreamHack Summer 2016 started featuring eight teams playing for a $100,000 prize pool.

In the semifinals, Ninjas in Pyjamas beat Astralis 2-1 and Immortals beat GODSENT 2-1 as well. The finals between Ninjas in Pyjamas and Immortals was not expected given IMT's performance in the group stage and their close semifinals. However, with the momentum gained from key plays from felps, Immortals were able to sweep Ninjas in Pyjamas and win the Immortals' first LAN title.

Esports Championship Series Season 1 - Finals

After weeks of qualifiers and matches in both Europe and North America, the final tournament for the Esports Championship Series Season 1 featured eight teams playing for a $765,000 USD prize pool. In group A, Luminosity and G2 Esports were first and second respectively by soundly beating Team Liquid and Ninjas in Pyjamas. Group B had Fnatic and Team SoloMid coming out first and second with Cloud9 and Astralis being eliminated.

In the playoffs, both Luminosity and G2 Esports swept TSM and Fnatic respectively to have a rematch from Group A. The Finals between Luminosity and G2 Esports was not very close as LG was beat 11-16 on Dust2 and 5-16 on Overpass. With this win, G2 Esports took home $250,000 USD.

The International 2016: Main Qualifiers

The International is the biggest Dota 2 tournament of the year and its qualifiers are already underway. The format is divided into two phases. Phase one features a round robin with all the teams in the group. Each team plays against the other teams of their region in a best of one series. The winner of the group secures a spot in the main tournament and the second to fifth place teams advance to phase two. Phase two features a double elimination bracket of these four teams from phase one. These are best of threes and the winner of the bracket secures a spot in the main tournament. The runner up goes to The International 2016 Wild Card tournament in Seattle to play other third place teams for the final two slots at the Main Event.

Here are the main results of the qualifiers for each region:

Americas Qualifier: Evil Geniuses tied with compLexity Gaming and eventually won the tiebreaker to win the ticket to the main tournament. compLexity Gaming, Digital Chaos, Void Boys, and FDL play in the Playoffs this week.

Chinese Qualifier: Wings Gaming is the first seed with Invictus Gaming, Vici Gaming Reborn, EHOME.cn, and iG Vitality headed to Phase two.

European Qualifier: With a three-way tie for first place, Team Secret came out on top against Escape Gaming and Fantastic Five. As a result the remaining seeds are Escape Gaming, Fantastic Five, Ad Finem, and Alliance.

Southeast Asian Qualifier: SEA had a three-way tie as well with TNC Gaming, Fnatic, and Execration. TNC came out on top with Fnatic, Excration, WarriorsGaming.Unity, and White Fries Gaming behind them.

Alienware Monthly Melee: June

Alienware hosts a monthly online tournament with a humble $3,000 prizepool. With eight of the best teams in the world, the tournament involved a group stage and a double elimination playoff stage. In Group A, Team EnVyUs took the first lead over Luminosity Gaming, Northern Gaming Red, and 1SHOT (second, third, and fourth place respectively). In Group B, Cloud9 swept the group making Team Liquid, Gale Force eSports, and No Fast Guns second, third, and fourth respectively.

While Cloud9 has been the team to beat, Team EnVyUs was able to beat them in a best of five twice in both the Winners' Finals and Grand Finals. With restrictions like single hero limit and the nerf to Widowmaker, the meta may have shifted away from Cloud9 which gave Team EnVyUs the advantage.

Operation Breakout

Operation Breakout is a Overwatch tournament that took place from June 11-26. With $15,000 on the line, the top teams of the world (Cloud9 and Team EnVyUs) went head to head.

Similar to the results of the Alienware Monthly Melee, Cloud9 and Team EnvyUs were in a tier above and met in the Winners' Finals and Grand Finals. Also similar to the previous tournament, Team EnVyUs dominated this matchup with a 3-0 sweep in both series. With this win, Team EnVyUs took home $7,500 USD.

OG Invitational

Group A had Luminosity take the first seed over Cloud9, Team Liquid, and Splyce. Group B resulted in Team EnVyUs over Northern Gaming Red, Gale Force eSports, and FaZe Clan.

In the playoffs, Team EnVyUs swept both Cloud9 in the semifinals and Luminosity in the finals. Northern Gaming Red beat Cloud9 in a narrow 3-2 to get third place.
