NA LCS Recap and Standings

The first week of the NA LCS Summer Split has started! With the new best of three format, the competition was fiercer than ever.

Day 1:

  1. TSM vs Counter Logic Gaming (2-0)
  2. Team Envy vs NRG Esports (2-1)

Day 2:

  1. Cloud9 vs Immortals (1-2)
  2. Echo Fox vs Phoenix1 (2-0)
  3. Team Envy vs Liquid (2-0)
  4. Apex vs NRG Esports (2-0)

Day 3:

  1. Apex vs Counter Logic Gaming (2-1)
  2. TSM vs Liquid (2-0)
  3. Echo Fox vs Cloud9 (1-2)
  4. Immortals vs Phoenix1 (2-0)

TSM has done especially well this week, sweeping rivals CLG and TL 2-0 showing that they might be the current best team of the league. Especially since the departure of YellOwStaR, many had their doubts for TSM's new support Biofrost. Fortunately for TSM fans Biofrost looked like the makings of a world-class support.

Immortals, Team Envy, Echo Fox, and Cloud9 also looked strong with great series. CLG and Team Liquid stumbled out of the gates this week with a 0-2 start. While CLG is expected to bounce back, Team Liquid looked particularly shaky with their suspension of Dardoch. Despite the suspension, the team then subbing him in at the end their game against TSM, raising serious questions about the stability of Liquid as a team.

Here are the standings after one week of play:

1. TSM (2W-0L) (Game Record: 4-0)

2. Apex (2W-0L) (Game Record: 4-1)

2. Immortals (2W-0L) (Game Record: 4-1)

2. Team Envy (2W-0L) (Game Record: 4-1)

5. Echo Fox (1W-1L) (Game Record: 3-2)

6. Cloud9 (1W-1L) (Game Record: 3-3)

7. Counter Logic Gaming (0W-2L) (Game Record: 1-4)

7. NRG Esports (0W-2L) (Game Record: 1-4)

9. Phoenix1 (0W-2L) (Game Record: 0-4)

9. Liquid (0W-2L) (Game Record: 0-4)

Week 2 Preview

The series to watch is TSM vs Immortals on Sunday as they are two elite teams that are competing for the top spot in North America.

EU LCS Recap and Standings

The first week of the EU LCS Summer Split has started! Unlike the NA LCS, the EU LCS uses best of twos which leads to a point system. A 2-0 win gives 3 points. A tie gives 1 point per team. A loss gives no points.

Here's how the matches went:

Day 1:

  1. Origen vs G2 Esports (0-2)
  2. H2K vs ROCCAT (1-1)
  3. FC Schalke 04 vs Unicorns of Love (2-0)
  4. Spylce vs Team Vitality (1-1)
  5. Fnatic vs Giants (2-0)

Day 2:

  1. Spylce vs ROCCAT (1-1)
  2. Unicorns of Love vs Origen (2-0)
  3. Giants vs G2 Esports (0-2)
  4. Team Vitality vs Fnatic (1-1)
  5. H2K vs FC Schalke 04 (1-1)

In the land of ties G2 Esports has once again come out ahead despite their troubles at MSI. Fnatic also seemed significantly better with their old captain YellOwStaR back on support. Origen looks disjointed with the loss of their star ADC and support.

Here are the standings after one week of play:

1. G2 Esports (6 PTS) (2W-0T-0L)

2. Fnatic (4 PTS) (1W-1T-0L)

2. FC Schalke 04 (4 PTS) (1W-1T-0L)

GosuGamers Overwatch Weekly

GosuGamers organize a weekly tournament for both North America and Europe called the GosuGamers Overwatch Weekly NA/EU. The prize pool is a modest $500 + a crowdfunded amount (about $700) to spread among the top two teams. The format is a single elimination bracket of best of threes with a best of five final. With 32 different teams, these weekly tournaments give GosuGamers the data to put together their Overwatch ranking list.

For the EU tournament Team EnVyUs took first place after beating second place team REUNITED twice, once in the winners final and again in the Grand Finals.

For the NA tournament, Team Liquid fought through the Loser's bracket and staged a miraculous comeback against nubris despite being 35% of a King of the Hill map away from losing it all. Nevertheless, Team EnVyUs proved that they are one of the best teams in the world by sweeping Team Liquid 3-0.
