The first week of the NA LCS Summer Split has started! With the new best of three format, the competition was fiercer than ever.
Day 1:
Day 2:
Day 3:
TSM has done especially well this week, sweeping rivals CLG and TL 2-0 showing that they might be the current best team of the league. Especially since the departure of YellOwStaR, many had their doubts for TSM's new support Biofrost. Fortunately for TSM fans Biofrost looked like the makings of a world-class support.
Immortals, Team Envy, Echo Fox, and Cloud9 also looked strong with great series. CLG and Team Liquid stumbled out of the gates this week with a 0-2 start. While CLG is expected to bounce back, Team Liquid looked particularly shaky with their suspension of Dardoch. Despite the suspension, the team then subbing him in at the end their game against TSM, raising serious questions about the stability of Liquid as a team.
Here are the standings after one week of play:
| 1. TSM (2W-0L) (Game Record: 4-0)
2. Apex (2W-0L) (Game Record: 4-1) 2. Immortals (2W-0L) (Game Record: 4-1) 2. Team Envy (2W-0L) (Game Record: 4-1) 5. Echo Fox (1W-1L) (Game Record: 3-2) 6. Cloud9 (1W-1L) (Game Record: 3-3) 7. GosuGamers organize a weekly tournament for both North America and Europe called the GosuGamers Overwatch Weekly NA/EU. The prize pool is a modest $500 + a crowdfunded amount (about $700) to spread among the top two teams. The format is a single elimination bracket of best of threes with a best of five final. With 32 different teams, these weekly tournaments give GosuGamers the data to put together their Overwatch ranking list.
For the EU tournament Team EnVyUs took first place after beating second place team REUNITED twice, once in the winners final and again in the Grand Finals.
For the NA tournament, Team Liquid fought through the Loser's bracket and staged a miraculous comeback against nubris despite being 35% of a King of the Hill map away from losing it all. Nevertheless, Team EnVyUs proved that they are one of the best teams in the world by sweeping Team Liquid 3-0.
