Overwatch

While the game has been released for just a week, tournaments have been going on since the closed beta.

Agents Rising

Agents Rising was the biggest Overwatch event yet with a $10,000 prize pool and some of the best teams in North America. It was a LAN event taking place in the eSports Arena in Santa Ana, California from May 28th to the 29th. The most notable teams were Cloud9, Gale Force Esports, and Team Liquid. Agents Rising also featured a new scoring system which involved the following:

  • Each match will either be a best of three or a best of five. The match will end if a team is unable to tie or pass the opposing team’s score. In the event of a tie score at the end of a match, a single round of KOTH on a random map will determine the winner.
  • On payload and point capture maps, each team gets one point for successfully attacking or defending.
  • If each team successfully attacks, then the team with the fastest time receives one bonus point.
  • If each team successfully defends then the team that reached the farthest objective gets a bonus point. If both teams reached the same point, then no bonus point is awarded.
  • On KOTH maps, each team receives one point for a successful point capture.

Here's how the tournament went down:

In the grand finals, Cloud9 faced Team Liquid and won 6-3 cementing their place as the current team to beat in this new game.

My first MMOs included Ragnarok Online, Gunbound, Diablo II, and World of Warcraft. Nowadays, my wife (also a writer on MMOs) and I play League of Legends and any other MMOs we can get our hands on. I also love following eSports and attending eSports events.
