World Of Warcraft's Pre-Expansion Patch Draws Near, Demon Hunter "No Later Than August 17"

world-of-warcraft-demon-hunter-4

Blizzard Entertainment announced today that World of Warcraft: Legion's pre-expansion patch is "coming soon." We already knew that, but this time, it's soon enough that the company has felt the need to outline plans for the game between now and the launch of Legion. In fact, according to a user on the World of Warcraft subreddit, the patch may even be launching as soon as July 12th.

Once the pre-expansion patch launches, players will be able to access changes to the Transmogrification Collections system and classes, as well as anything else listed in the lengthy set of patch notes, immediately. Players who have pre-purchased Legion will be given early access to the new Demon Hunter class no later than August 17th. Burning Legion Invasions and the beginning of the Broken Shore storyline will be added sometime before the expansion's launch.

EU LCS Recap and Standings

With eight teams eliminated, the playoffs started off and SK Gaming and Team Liquid were able to fight through to meet in the Finals. This is a historic run for Team Liquid as it was an opportunity to be the first North American ESL Major champion. This finals was also the first time a Major Grand Final did not feature a European team with SK Gaming's Brazilian roster.

Lord British Selling His Blood For Shroud Of The Avatar

shroud-of-the-avatar-garriott-selling-blood-ebay-banner

In an effort to raise funds for Shroud of the Avatar Richard Garriott, Lord British, is selling his blood on eBay. It's not the strangest thing I've seen sold on the auction site, if anyone remembers the early days of the weird internet.

To be clear, purchasers won't receive Garriott's blood in a vial. Artist Steve Brudniak has created reliquaries for Garriott's blood, a rather egotistical but not surprising container for the eccentric MMORPG pioneer. (Those interested can view Brudniak's non-blood related work on his website.)

You can own your very own Lord British Blood Reliquary for a practical $5,000.

The Lord British Blood Reliquary is a beautiful and unique piece of art made of bakelite, copper, nails, glass, and mirrored glass that can be hung on your wall. It contains the "Blood of Lord British" which was collected and recorded in this video There are only 6 of these rare jewels so do not hesitate to make this your own.

Shroud of the Avatar has been in pre-alpha Early Access since November 24, 2014, after raising nearly $2 million on Kickstarter. Steam reviews have not been kind.

I can't see how selling six vials of blood for a total of $30,000 is what's needed to complete Shroud of the Avatar. What it has done is put Garriott's game back in the spotlight. Hopefully, the interest generated by this news leads to the finished product fans have been waiting for.

At least no one can say Garriott hasn't spilled blood over making his game.

Turbine To Become F2P Mobile Studio

lotro-online-banner-turbine-f2p-mobile

Boston-based studio Turbine will transition to a free-to-play, mobile development studio after a round of layoffs at both Lord of the Rings Online and Dungeons and Dragons Online.

“Turbine is transitioning into a free-to-play, mobile development studio, and as a result we are eliminating some positions. The Lord of the Rings Online and Dungeons and Dragons online games will continue to operate as they do now. Re-focusing and reducing the studio size was a difficult decision for the company, and we are grateful to all of the Turbine staff for their considerable contributions.”

MMOs.com's Erhan Altay predicted rough seas for Turbine back in September, 2015, in ane editorial titled Is Turbine Running out of Steam?

Maybe we'll see Turbine's IP's show up on mobile? Who knows what the future will bring. But I'm sure other companies are also considering the jump to mobile after seeing how successful the platform has become.

Interview With Yong-Hyun Park Of NAT Games, Developers Of Heroes Of Incredible Tales

heroes-of-incredible-tales-hit-interview-enemies-1

I recently had the chance to conduct an email interview with NAT Games CEO Yong-Hyun Park to discuss his company's game Heroes of Incredible Tales, which recently saw an international release. We discussed what inspired him to move to mobile, what changes were made for the international release, and more.

[singlepic id=54593 w=600 h=338 float=none]

Me: What inspired the move from open world PC MMORPGs like Lineage II and TERA to an instance-heavy mobile ARPG like HIT?

Park: I’ve developed two blockbuster MMORPGs for PC, Lineage 2 and TERA. Such games showcase my experience and strengths as a creator. The main development team has created some extremely high-polish content and cutting-edge graphics. Although I had an interest in mobile games for a long time, I wouldn’t have dared to jump into mobile even four to five years ago. At that time, the size and quality of mobile gaming development was too small even if you had an advantage. There were many people in small teams who could make sporty casual games better than I could. On the other hand, PC MMORPG development had grown to a massive scale. Although there were cost issues, the development time was significantly longer. A five to 10 year game was created. It was almost impossible to predict the era of games after making a game for five to 10 years.

As a result, there were two conditions that developed. The first was to be able to develop a mobile platform game that could scale, and the second was that the scope of PC MMORPG development had gotten too big.

What changes, if any, are being made to HIT’s international release?

In terms of game content, the Korean version was trimmed to a more sophisticated version for the global release. We especially focused on the balance in the early stages. Learning from the initial Korean release, we made an effort to improve on certain aspects of the game that we knew we wanted to improve.

[singlepic id=54592 w=600 h=338 float=none]

Will the international release launch up to date or will it be a little behind the Korean release?

The global version will almost be equivalent to the latest Korean version. Since the features are first released in South Korea, there will be many tests but sometimes stability issues will occur. Of course, we will immediately try to resolve them. After these issues are resolved, modifications are made for the global market and then released about a month later. The global version is more robust and optimized for reliability compared to Korea’s version.

Where will the servers for the international release be located?

The Asian servers are located in Singapore, American servers in Virginia, and European servers in Frankfurt.

What will HIT’s cash shop be like?

This part is not very different from other games. It consists of jewels or weapons, armor, adventure points, and fun ‘HIT” products. You do not necessarily have to purchase the products from the store but if you do purchase them, I think it’ll make the game more enjoyable. Honestly it would also help us too (laughs).

[singlepic id=54594 w=600 h=338 float=none]

Is gear equalized in the PvP arena?

In PVP, users will use leveled-up equipment that they acquire. Acquisition and growth of the equipment is one of the main aspects of “HIT.” Users will put in a lot of effort and time for this content. We think we should respect the efforts of these users. In addition, during PvP (when possible), players are matched according to their stats and similar abilities.

Are there plans to push HIT’s PvP arena mode as an eSport?

HIT’s synchronous PvP mode is excellent content for eSports. In Korea, we held a successful guild tournament in cooperation with smartphone maker Samsung that got an enthusiastic response.

[singlepic id=54591 w=600 h=338 float=none]

I’ve seen videos of an Archer character. When might we see the Archer in the international release?

Since the production for the character has been completed, it is possible to release it at anytime. However, we’re trying determine when is the best time to release the character by monitoring players’ progress based on their progression with the other four first released characters.

Pokémon GO Challenges You To Catch Pokémon In The Real World Today

pokemon-go-iphone-charmander

The highly anticipated GPS-based mobile Pokémon game Pokémon GO has finally launched in Australia, New Zealand, and the United States. If you've noticed your friends suddenly talking about catching Pokémon even though Sun and Moon don't come out until November, this might be why.

Pokémon GO's full set of features is as follows.

  • Catch Pokémon: Pokémon GO invites players to step outside, walk around and catch wild Pokémon. As players increase in level, they’ll be able to catch more-powerful Pokémon and gain access to more-powerful items. While working to complete the Pokédex, players will be able to evolve Pokémon by catching multiples of the same species and can even find Pokémon Eggs which hatch after a player walks a specific distance. Players are encouraged to keep exploring and encountering the many different Pokémon needed to complete the Pokédex!
  • Join a Team and Battle: Players can join one of three teams, Mystic, Instinct or Valor  and assign Pokémon they have caught to an open Pokémon Gym location or to a Gym claimed by a fellow team member. Teams must battle against the defending Pokémon in their rival teams’ Gyms to lower a Gym’s Prestige and claim the Gym for their own team. Cooperation amongst team members is important in securing as many Gyms as possible.
  • Share the Fun: Activate the camera feature to take photos of Pokémon encountered in the world. With their real-life surroundings providing a backdrop for these photos, players will be able to share these memorable moments with their friends.
  • Customize the Trainer Avatar: Players can choose from a range of apparel and accessories to match their in-game avatar with their personal style. The customized avatar will appear on the map as players move around, as well as on their profile page. Trainer’s avatars will also appear in Gyms under their team’s control.
  • Soundtrack by Junichi Masuda: Pokémon GO will feature all-new music composed by GAME FREAK’s Junichi Masuda. Mr. Masuda has worked on Pokémon video games since the very first games and has composed many of the classic and memorable songs that have inspired fans for decades.

You can download Pokémon GO from the App Store and Google Play now. A fair warning that you may need to travel in order to fill your Pokédex!
