Lord British Selling His Blood For Shroud Of The Avatar

In an effort to raise funds for Shroud of the Avatar Richard Garriott, Lord British, is selling his blood on eBay. It's not the strangest thing I've seen sold on the auction site, if anyone remembers the early days of the weird internet.

To be clear, purchasers won't receive Garriott's blood in a vial. Artist Steve Brudniak has created reliquaries for Garriott's blood, a rather egotistical but not surprising container for the eccentric MMORPG pioneer. (Those interested can view Brudniak's non-blood related work on his website.)

You can own your very own Lord British Blood Reliquary for a practical $5,000.

The Lord British Blood Reliquary is a beautiful and unique piece of art made of bakelite, copper, nails, glass, and mirrored glass that can be hung on your wall. It contains the "Blood of Lord British" which was collected and recorded in this video There are only 6 of these rare jewels so do not hesitate to make this your own.

Shroud of the Avatar has been in pre-alpha Early Access since November 24, 2014, after raising nearly $2 million on Kickstarter. Steam reviews have not been kind.

I can't see how selling six vials of blood for a total of $30,000 is what's needed to complete Shroud of the Avatar. What it has done is put Garriott's game back in the spotlight. Hopefully, the interest generated by this news leads to the finished product fans have been waiting for.

At least no one can say Garriott hasn't spilled blood over making his game.
