This is the fifty fourth episode of the MMOs.com Podcast and we look at the most recent news and happenings in the MMO and gaming world. We started the week off with the weekly raid as usual which was about playing communities in private servers. We then discussed the recent rise in popularity of the buy to play model for games like Black Desert Online and Overwatch. A survey of gamers found that most people prefer a one time fee over micro-transactions. We also talked about the recent server issues with Tree of Savior and the decision to prevent new players from downloading the game.

luna-chronicles-battle-banner

Cherry Credits and Eyedentity Mobile announced today that they have launched CLGamez's free-to-play turn-based RPG Luna Chronicles worldwide on both Android and iOS. The game features a "deep combat system," over 100 "exquisitely animated heroes" to collect, and competitive, cooperative, and single-player modes alike.

The game is described as follows.

Featuring visually stunning and strategically intense turn-based squad combat, Luna Chronicles allows players to take a more active role in the formation of their elite squad and control of the battlefield, resulting in tactically fierce gameplay in which player skill matters more.

Wrapped around Luna Chronicles’ deep combat system are over 100 exquisitely animated heroes and a multitude of competitive game modes that present a full spectrum of opportunities for players employ their strategic skills. The Arena pits player squads in brutal squad-on-squad combat for top-dog status, while Fortress Siege allows players to field mighty siege weapons alongside their squads to wage total war on their rivals’ fortresses!

Meanwhile, the new Raid mode will feature a mixture of cooperative and competitive gameplay, as players and their friends compete with one another to collectively take down gargantuan screen-filling boss creatures. Players looking to test their mettle in PvE action can engage in Luna Chronicles’ single-player campaign, Destiny Tower, and a gauntlet-style Hell Mode capable of bringing the hardiest warriors to their knees!

Someone Is Trying To Get World Of Warcraft Private Server Software Onto Steam

world-of-warcraft-wrath-of-the-lich-kingIn a world where Blizzard shut down the most popular World of Warcraft private server and the team behind it decided not to open source it after all, one man ignored all of the warning signs and is attempting to get his Wrath of the Lich King private server software onto Steam. His name is post4kost.

Now, it's undeniably true that Greenlight is fairly broken and a Khan Online private server managed to make it through, but this seems brazen at best. Blizzard just cast Cease and Desist on Nostalrius and has even gone so far as to attempt to bring down Overwatch rule 34 content. I can't imagine they would just ignore efforts to sell—or perhaps just distribute—private server software through a major channel like Steam.

Most hilarious, though, is the fact that barely anything is available yet, should you use this private server. There is a long list of features on the Greenlight page that say "not available" right next to them. Working features include the Human and Orc races, the Death Knight starting area, "most" creatures, items, quests, rare boss spawns, vehicles, and world events, and the Dungeon Finder, albeit no dungeons are available.

Chances of the Greenlight page remaining online for longer than a day are slim, so I've included an image of the top of the page below.

Ambitious Action RPG Kings And Heroes Hits Early Access Today

kings-and-heroes

From there, players can group up in groups of up to eight and take on the game's procedurally generated dungeons. Dungeons will even allow you to choose the size and difficulty. Combat looks as if it is not unlike that of the Elder Scrolls series.

The game will be launching on Steam Early Access later today. The Early Access version will feature six playable races, five classes, four dungeon types, more than 20 bosses, a starter town called Everdale, and several settlements throughout the world. It will cost $29.95 and a four pack will be available.

As an added bonus, all characters created during the first week of Early Access will be given a "Benefactor’s Ring, Crown of the Creator, and Patron’s Cloak."

Gamigo And Aeria Games To Undergo A Strategic Merger

gamigo-aeria-merger

In surprising turn of events, Gamigo AG announced today that it and Aeria Games Europe GmbH would be undergoing a strategic merger in an effort to take "the next step toward creating a leading platform on the consolidation of the European games market." As a part of this merger, ProSiebenSat.1 will be "contributing its 100% holding in Aeria Games to gamigo AG and will become a minority shareholder in the merged publisher with a 33 percent stake."

It is unknown at this time whether the merger will have any effect on the companies' current or upcoming titles.

The original press release is as follows.

gamigo AG (“gamigo”, bond ISIN: DE000A1TNJY0) and Aeria Games Europe GmbH, two of the leading European games publishers, have agreed a strategic merger of their companies and are together taking the next step toward creating a leading platform on the consolidation of the European games market. The merger is a logical move for both firms, which have successfully acquired, integrated, and consolidated several games companies and assets in recent years. The agreement is subject to approval by the relevant antitrust authorities.

Combining the two complementary online and mobile games portfolios will make it possible to tap substantial synergy potential. The joint company has a wide reach, marketing its games in over 40 countries, with a focus on Europe and North America. The new publisher has offices in Berlin, Hamburg, Münster, Seoul, Chicago, and San Francisco. The company boasts numerous strong and popular client and browser games (including Echo of Soul, Fiesta Online, Aura Kingdom, and Desert Operations) as well as titles in the fast-growing mobile segment (including Goal One and Dawn of Gods) and already has various new games in the pipeline (including Diddl and Bless) for the coming years.

The two publishers also complement each other well on the B2B side with portals like browsergames.de and deutschland-spielt.de. The focus in this activity will remain on offering multichannel advertising and platform services.

As part of the transaction, ProSiebenSat.1 is contributing its 100% holding in Aeria Games to gamigo AG and will become a minority shareholder in the merged publisher with a 33 percent stake. ProSiebenSat.1 acquired Aeria Games Europe in February 2014, since when it has pushed ahead with the mobile side of the publisher’s business in particular.

gamigo CEO Remco Westermann comments: “We aim to jointly hone one of the leading European platforms for online and mobile games for international operations. Our synergies are strong and we are planning to generate further profitable revenue growth both organically and by making further acquisitions with a view to extending reach, portfolio, technology, sales channels and partner networks. Together we hold a leading market position.”

Oliver Strutynski, Managing Director of Aeria Games, says: “The merger of gamigo and Aeria Games will give rise to a new, strong player in the international games business with a fantastic line-up.”
