World Of Warcraft’s Headless Horseman Drops A Key To The Old Scarlet Monastery

When World of Warcraft’s annual Hallow’s End event kicked off the other day, it brought along a slightly different version of the Headless Horseman encounter. This year’s fight against the infamous equestrian got a fresh coat of paint with new challenges, new abilities, new rewards, as well as a hard mode with higher drop rates.

Apparently, Blizzard also chucked in a key to the old version of the Scarlet Monastery among the random loot obtainable from the Loot-filled Pumpkin reward. Should you manage to snag a Scarlet Key, make your way over to the monastery in Tirisfal Glades where you’ll be able to exchange it for a clickable item with the description: “Retracing the steps of those who came before.”

Clicking on the item will grant you an account-wide buff that will let you enter all four of the original Scarlet Monastery instances: the Armory, the Cathedral, the Library, and the Graveyard. What’s in it for you? Well, you’ll get another shot at obtaining returning loot from the vanilla version, including an array of transmog gear.

You can also grab an extra tradeable key from Arcanist Doan’s chest in the vanilla version of the Library Wing. Unlike the Headless Horseman drop, you’ll still be able to get a key from the chest even after Hallow’s End comes to an end on November 1st, although it looks like you can only loot it once before it disappears. Blizzard has yet to confirm whether that’s intentional or if it’s a bug.

Alternatively, you can also purchase the key from the Auction House or drop by World of Warcraft Classic’s version of the monastery.
