Thunder Tier One Is Now In Maintenance Mode Barely A Year After Its Release

Krafton’s top-down tactical shooter Thunder Tier One is now in maintenance mode less than a year after it launched in December 2021. The game drops players into the boots of a member of an elite special operations team that’s been tasked with taking down a terrorist organization in a fictional Eastern European country called Salobia.
Thunder Tier One features both a single-player and co-op campaign along with multiple PvP game modes that players can enter as a full squad or with AI to fill in vacant slots. As a “passion project” from the PUBG: Battlegrounds and TERA developer, players were optimistic that the game would be getting regular updates and new content for years to come. Alas, it looks like that’s not going to be the case.
Krafton rolled out a minor update for the shooter last month saying that it would be the last update for the game and all but implied that players should have known that it wasn’t going to be a long term project.
“Thunder Tier One was always planned as a small, standalone title and we are happy with where the game is right now in terms of its development,” the studio said. “As such, this will be the last content update for Thunder. We do hope you enjoy the new weapons, gear, and cosmetics we’ve added – as well as the much-anticipated camera manager modding ability. We would like to thank our community once again for all the love and support you showed us along the way! You’re the best! Thunder out!”
Players, however, were both surprised and angered by the news, especially since they dropped $19.99 on the game only to have it relegated to maintenance mode barely a year after its release. Consequently, the games Steam reviews quickly turned from Mostly Positive to Mostly Negative in the span of a month.
“This game is abandonware, the devs released their last update and it almost feels like a scam, save your money, this game is not at all worth it, even on sale!” reads the top review on Steam.
The game is still entirely playable though even if it won’t be getting any more updates from Krafton. It’s also completely moddable so there’s a chance that it will be seeing new content in the future, just not official ones.
