Tencent To Acquire 29% Shares In Norwegian Game Developer And Publisher Funcom
Chinese tech giant Tencent will become even bigger as they enter into a share purchase agreement with Norwegian video game company Funcom. According to the official press release, Tencent has agreed to purchase 29% of Funcom’s shares making Tencent the company’s largest shareholder once the deal pushes through. Tencent also owns shares in many of the world’s top game companies including Epic, Ubisoft, Riot Games, Supercell, Frontier, Paradox, and Miniclip.

Funcom is known for a variety of online games including Anarchy Online, Age of Conan, The Secret World and Conan Exiles. The company has also recently obtained exclusive rights to develop and publish games based on the DUNE franchise and is currently working on a sandbox game set in the DUNE universe in cooperation with Legendary Entertainment.
