World of Warcraft may be shutting down in China next week but there’s a new copycat coming out in the country courtesy of Tencent called Tarisland. Tencent was one of the companies that Bloomberg pointed to as likely candidates to replace NetEase as Blizzard’s Chinese publisher, but it looks like that’s not going to happen as Tencent is gearing up to release its own WoW clone this year.

Tarisland features all the trappings of a typical WoW clone, including dragon-riding, and is currently in closed beta testing in China. “It includes dragon-riding, demon-slaying and more than a passing resemblance to Blizzard’s genre-defining World of Warcraft. Just check out its first trailer and see for yourself. The new game even uses some of the same Chinese voice actors,” reported Bloomberg.

Whether the game will be launching in the west is still unclear, but we’ll be sure to let you know as soon as word comes out. In the meantime, you can watch a preview of the game in its first gameplay trailer below.
