Star Wars The Old Republic Opens New Sydney-Based Asia Pacific Cloud Server Today

Star Wars The Old Republic will be expanding its servers to include the Asia-Pacific later today to cater to those living in Australia and surrounding regions. The new cloud server, called Shae Vizla, will be hosted in Sydney and will be coming online 11 a.m. PST on November 16th for subscribers and to free-to-play players 24 hours later.
“We have been wanting to spin up a server in this region for quite some time now, and with our recent technological upgrades, it is now possible to make this a reality,” said Executive Producer Keith Kanneg. “Over the last year, we’ve updated our launcher, upgraded the game client to 64-bit, and recently we’ve migrated all of our game servers to the cloud. All of these are a huge win for us as we continue to modernize our infrastructure enabling us to open up new areas, improve performance, and make it easier to deliver new content and manage the overall game.”
Shae Vizla will initially be a fresh start server but will eventually allow character transfers sometime in the future. Account-based unlocks, however, will still be accessible on the new server. Character boosts to level 70 and level 80 will also be allowed.
“In essence, opening a new server this way will feel like a new launch,” Kanneg said. “Our established players can enjoy the nostalgia of the game, build new communities within APAC, and offer guidance to new players. Those who will be starting their adventure for the first time will have over 12 years of content, stories, and fun to enjoy in their Star Wars journey.”
More information about the Shae Vizla server can be found on the Star Wars The Old Republic official site.
