Star Wars: The Old Republic's “Flashpoint Resurgence” Update Launching In Late August

BioWare’s long-running MMO Star Wars: The Old Republic is lining up its next patch, Game Update 7.7.1, for a late-August release. Dubbed Flashpoint Resurgence, the update continues the studio’s push to modernize the 2011 title while giving both longtime subscribers and free-to-play users new reasons to log in.
Key additions include the start of Galactic Season 9, visual upgrades to character creation, and a handful of items inspired by the Disney+ series Andor. The patch also loosens several long-standing restrictions on free and preferred accounts, a move likely aimed at lowering the barrier for returning players before the next story arc arrives in Update 7.8.
- Galactic Season 9 – “Flashpoint Resurgence”: Runs 26 weeks and centers on testing a fresh batch of Czerka Combat Enhancers for vendor Kai Zykken. Two new buffs can be triggered inside Flashpoints.
- Season 9 rewards: New titles, collapsible themed weapons, Commandant’s and Ascendant Admiral armor sets, plus five mounts.
- Character select overhaul: Improved lighting, added depth-of-field focus on your avatar, and wider face-definition support for the Rattataki species. Hundreds of new hair and montral color options arrive for multiple species including Cathar, Chiss, Cyborg, Human, Miraluka, Mirialan, Togruta, and Zabrak.
- Andor cosmetics: Hairstyle, head accessory, outfit, and an Imperial Scout mount enter the Cartel Market. A limited-time login currency will unlock an Andor-themed companion customization for droids 2V-R8 and C2-N2.
- Free-to-play quality-of-life tweaks: Companion customizations, Legacy titles, Rest XP, the first Cargo Bay, the Hide Head slot, expanded escrow withdrawals, and full quickbar access become available without a subscription.
- On the horizon: The next narrative chapter, “Galactic Threads,” is expected in Update 7.8, with “Master’s Enigma” following in 7.8.1.
Star Wars: The Old Republic shifted to a hybrid free-to-play model in 2012 and has relied on seasonal content and cosmetic tie-ins to keep its community engaged. The visual upgrades and relaxed F2P rules in 7.7.1 show BioWare’s continued effort to align the decade-old MMO with modern expectations.
