One More Games is throwing in the towel and has announced the sunsetting of its real-time battler, Spellcraft. The studio kicked off alpha testing for the multiplayer tactical game back in April but stopped updating it in June after its pre-season failed to gather enough interest.

“After our last public test of Spellcraft we determined that the game was far from ready,” the studio admitted. “While some enjoyed the game and played it frequently – even obsessively – too many didn’t continue to play.”

The team promptly went back to the drawing board to come up with a prototype that will hopefully appeal to the gaming community and make the game financially viable. Many prototypes later, some of which were “wildly different” from the original game, they finally decided to call it quits.

One More Game will be winding down live services and shutting down the game over the next few weeks but will be keeping the Spellcraft Discord running for the time being. Meanwhile, the studio hard at work on its next game which already has a working prototype with win and lose conditions but isn’t quite ready for public release.

“[…] It’s still what we lovingly refer to as ‘technically a game,’” One More Game said. “There’s a way to win and lose, but it’s not fun yet. When we’re ready, we’d love to invite all of you to help us build our next title.”
