Embracer Is Pulling The Plug On Flying Wild Hog’s Co-op ARPG Space Punks

Swedish video game holding company Embracer Group continues to feel the effects of its failed $2 billion partnership. The botched deal prompted a major restructuring within the company to shore up and consolidate its resources. Unfortunately, the restructuring also required Embracer to layoff an unknown number of employees and cancel multiple games, the first confirmed one being Flying Wild Hog’s co-op ARPG Space Punks.
Embracer acquired Polish studio Flying Wild Hog for a little over $135 million back in 2020. Flying Wild Hog launched Space Punks into open beta in April 2022 in partnership with Jagex as a free-to-play title on the Epic Games Store. The game, however, will no longer be making it out of open beta and will be shutting down on November 6th. The in-game cash shop and other microtransactions have already been disabled.
“It is with a heavy heart that we share this news regarding Space Punks. Flying Wild Hog and Jagex regretfully announce the discontinuation of support for Space Punks,” the team broke the news. “This decision follows careful consideration of market conditions and our goals, and while tough, it was deemed necessary. Our mission is to craft games that stay close to gamers’ hearts for years. We would like to express our deep gratitude to all of you who joined us on this journey, from early access to Open Beta.”
Founder’s pack owners will receive full refunds starting on October 5th. Those who don’t receive a refund by November 5th are advised to the Epic Games Store support team for assistance. The team has also confirmed that they won’t be running any farewell events.
